The Role
It has been thoroughly stimulating and enjoyable. The tasks I have gotten to do were meaningful and I felt like I was truly helping my team. Responsibilities were handed to me from an early stage and I can't really think of any way in which the experience could have been better.
Responsibilities were handed to me at a very early stage and I certainly felt valued by most of my colleagues. The work I did was appreciated and fed directly into the work done by my colleagues.
My first manager was not particularly supportive or guiding, but I received such help from other colleagues. My new manager, that I was given after 4 weeks, was much more supportive and guiding. I felt very comfortable under his management.
Some days were very busy, some were less busy. I never felt like I had more to do than I could cope with, nor did I ever feel that I was just sitting around doing nothing. There was always something to do -- if the desk was calm there were things off the desk that could be done.
More than I had expected. I am very happy with the level of responsibility handed to me from a very early stage. Although I did not always realise it at the time, the things I worked on often fed directly into the work of my senior colleagues.
As I do not study Finance or any related degree, I was not directly benefiting from the training I received. However, the social interactions and the hard-working mentality of the industry are certainly things I will be able to bring back to university and which will help me greatly in my studies and beyond.
The Company
Hard-working but happy and welcoming. I think a Markets floor can only be so welcoming.. It's an intensely stimulating experience that cannot be rivaled by any other desk job, in my opinion.
Very well organised. Plenty of events were scheduled such as speakers, networking, etc., to keep us too tied to our desks. A lot of thought had gone into the organisation and this was made very evident.
The firm is known in the industry for being the one which invests most in its graduates, and this was certainly made very obvious from day 1. Even before we hit the desk, we were given a 1-week training programme that was one of the most intense learning experiences I've ever had. Throughout the internship we were also given the opportunity to pursue further training.

I can't say anything other than that it's incredibly appealing. The firm matched and exceeded my expectations, and I can't think of a place I'd rather start my career in right now.
The Culture
The social scene was something that was greatly facilitated by the many events organised around the internship. I feel like I have made some life-long friends here, and I think that's testiment to how good the social scene was.
It's London, after all. It's not going to get particularly cheap, wherever you live. Eating and drinking, however, is cheap, so that weighs up the overall grade.
It's London -- need I say more?
We did do a day of volunteering outside of work, which was great fun. Other than that, we were invited to participate in a Corporate Challenge run which I could not attend, unfortunately. The opportunities to do things outside of work were there, definitely, but this is perhaps something I could have wanted to have a bit more of.
