The Role
The internship was extremely insightful. I loved working with the people around me, as well as the challenges the tasks I had been given brought with them.
My colleagues were very supportive. They valued my opinion and gave me opportunities to include my own ideas in the work I did. I feel very close to the other team members and am not afraid to ask any questions.
Both my manager and my assigned "Buddy" took time to explain new concepts to me and offered guidance whenever needed. They showed their confidence in my abilities by letting me work independently and trusting me when I delivered presentations or worked together with other colleagues.
Days tended to be busy and I have been assigned many tasks, which made every day very interesting. However, despite all the different tasks and longer working hours, I never felt like I couldn't finish what I have been assigned.
I feel like I have been given as much responsibility as possible. Of course, being a new intern who doesn't know much about the business, it is impossible to bear much responsibility. Yet, I have been given almost full responsibility over the projects assigned to me which gave me the feeling of "being in charge".
Apart from the technical and analytical skills, which speak for themselves, I am sure that the soft skill that I have developed will greatly assist me during my studies and beyond.
The Company
People were very friendly which led to a pleasant atmosphere in the office. I got the impression that everyone worked extremely hard, but at the same time, people didn't forget how to have fun.
The internship was well-organized, from the introductory week in London all the way through to the end. The weekly training sessions were always communicated way in advance which allowed me to plan my work accordingly. It may have been nice to organize a few more intern gatherings and networking events outside the office.
I am very appreciative of the investments made. The training program was excellent, with both technical skills and soft skills sessions included. Both the CEO and CFO gave an intern speech followed by a Q&A session, which was unexpected
Company Parties/Events
Future employment prospects within the organization are very appealing to me and it is more a matter of being chosen by the company. I feel like the company culture rewards hard work and hope that my efforts will eventually pay off.
The Culture
Quite a few of us summer interns were staying in the same student accomodation during the internship which made events and going out together easy to organise. Most people were very social and the atmosphere in the intern group was great and much less competitive than I had imagined at the beginning. During my time here, I have been able to make some very good friends.
The costs of living in the area I lived was extremely high, as Geneva is one of the most expensive cities in the world. This however, didn't keep me from socializing with other people.
I wouldn't classify the nightlife as the best, but for me, it offers enough opportunities to have fun. There are a few good clubs and plenty of bars. A good thing about Geneva is that everything is really close-by and it is nice to be able to walk everywhere, during both day and night time.
As working hours were rather long, it was quite difficult to have many activities outside work during the week. At least that was the case for me. However, it seemed like as you "move up the chain", you can spend more time to get involved in activities outside of work. Many full-time employees go to the gym, or do other sports regularly after work.
