The Role
Really enjoyable internship. Having done a year-long work placement before this and now being able to look at both retrospectively I can say the JP Morgan recruitment programme is a exemplary and head and shoulders above many other firms. (I completed my placement at a blue-chip company).
Very valued by colleagues from the offset and throughout. There is no 'he's just an intern' attitude and they expect a high standard of work from the beginning but also take into account being a junior at the firm.
Support and guidance was welcomed, here asking for help is encouraged so I never felt I was out of my depth with any piece of work given to me. This is not limited to just management/supervisors even other associates' within and outside the teams are willing to help however they can.
Perfect balance. The work demands were cyclical, in the first two weeks you had to complete training sessions so to cover the learning curve needed to be successful in your line of business. After this however, the work-load starts to increase and sometimes you may have to work past 5 to get the job done. There is a good mix between BAU tasks and project work.
A lot of responsibility is given. The work I prepared was business critical for example when evaluating reports they came in that morning and had to be out the door to the client by the end of the day. You really are seen as a member of the team and not just the support.
In all most every task I completed in some way shape or form related back to my degree (Economics) or complemented it.
The Company
Very laid back but busy nearer month end.
Very organized, everything was seamless and all the speaker series set up by the recruitment team were either really insightful into the firm or very motivating.
Lots of training courses from mandatory AML courses to topics on bonds, derivatives, hedge funds each building a better understanding of your LOB and the JPM functions.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
Healthcare/Dental
Very appealing, I don't see my future anywhere else!
The Culture
Yes, everyone is really excited and wants to succeed and get onto the graduate role.
London so socializing is good but nightlife is expensive - so strike a balance!
Very good - but very expensive also
Lots of sporting activities that are organized by JPM for example the run which features many firms across the city.
