Trading Assistant Review

Rough around the edges (much like the tourism industry as a whole) and requiring more support from HR in terms of finance if it's to compete with more established schemes. Fortunately, the scheme is going in the right direction and has eventually rid itself of its "work-in-progress" reputation. All-in-all a decent placement scheme that I got a great deal out of. I have absolutely no regrets taking on a role at TUI and hope to return if the chance arises.

Treated like you are no different from permanent staff. Support from peers in terms of the job itself as well as a welcome social atmosphere is brilliant.

I experienced 3 different managers due to inevitable structural changes throughout the year. Despite these changes, I felt each manager provided brilliant support and guidance which helped me develop my skills in the job.

With obvious seasonal peaks in the tourism industry, there was bound to be periods with less and more work. A heads up to late traders who'll arrive at our busiest time - mid summer! Stick it out as you'll get better with experience and winter is much more relaxed.

Trading responsibilities for whole regions. Be aware of how important the decisions you make can be - you directly influence profit and revenue for a whole season.

> Very relevant to my course and modules undertaking in final year. > Transferable skills for a wide range of graduate job roles. > Working environment the perfect balance between professional and welcoming.

> A good professional / relaxing atmosphere mix

> Very poor at informing candidates whether they will be offered the job. Most placements were treated very unprofessionally in the run up to actually being offered the job. > Uninformed of the actual job role until the last minute and allocation to role based on ability rather than preference (Worked out perfect for me but not others). > Not enough time with teams during induction. > Good organization shown through the staff who volunteered to arrange activities for us (e.g. visits to the hangar)

> Great T&D sessions to get involved in. > Not a great deal specifically for the placement scheme itself but more than adequate training opportunities were available for us.

Grad scheme looks very good indeed but extremely competitive. No evidence yet that the placement scheme is a "fast-track" onto this. Definately helps put you in the running though!

Most of us had our own lives on weekends. Majority of us ate together at lunch every day and have had many memorable nights out together!! Will definately stay in contact with those who got involved.

Cheapest town that's so close to London. Only issue - Taxis are a rip off round here! Avoid and take buses.

Luton is what you make of it!! Had some awesome nights out here and the glitz & glam of London & St Albans are quite simply overated!

Yes - plenty of sports teams dotted around Luton. Great parks for jogging and cheap gyms. Other than sport, I didnt try anything but I'm sure there's plently of clubs out here considering the mix of people in Luton.
