The Role
I really enjoyed my placement year and I have learned so much from it. Microsoft invest in their people, including interns so I was able to get vast amounts of training and I always had support when I needed it.
I regularly receive feedback on the work I have done and good work is always acknowledged. I always feel I am an essential part of the team and not just ‘the intern’.
My manager supported me throughout my Internship and helped me with any training I needed, ultimately helping me to gain Microsoft certifications throughout my internship.
I was very much left to organise my own time and workload as I work within a wordwide team. I always had work to do and I was very much trusted to complete the work without needing to be chased.
I was given a lot of responsibility to not only mange projects but I worked in the office alone a lot of the time so I was trusted to do all the work I needed to and ensure that I met all my deadlines. This showed my team has trust in me.
Microsoft has invested both time and resources into me and I have learned a vast amount throughout my time here. I have attended training of time management, work efficiency, presentation skills and also technical courses. These were a huge help to my role at Microsoft and will be a massive help when I return to university.
The Company
The office was a very fun environment to work in and Microsoft is an amazing place to work. We have free drinks throughout the day, table football, pool table and xboxs's galore.
My placement was very well organised and whenever I had an issue there was always someone to go to.
I don’t think Microsoft could have invested more in me as a person. I was encouraged to attend any training courses I felt would benefit me and I also attended a week long technical course to improve my technical skills.

I have already started completeing my application to return to Microsoft as a graduate.
The Culture
We had an induction week of activities to get to know our fellow interns. We had our own intern community and were given a budget to spend on a number of events throughout the year.
Living costs and the cost of going out was not cheap in Reading.
Reading has a very limited nightlife but it has great links to London and other areas on the train.
Microsoft has a vast number of social clubs and events to get involved in. I trained for 6 months to represent Microsoft at the UK challenge and I regularly took part in photography events run by the Microsoft Photography club.
