The Role
Excited to get started, the area was amazing. Great scope for a lot of oppotunities, working and socially.
The employees at the firm were very friendly and approachable. I was expecting more of a harsh strict environment but was pleasantly surprised with the personality of the workers here.
You have one manager assigned but have oppotunities to liase with others, its up to you to seek help/advice or guidance. But everyone is very approachable and willing to help. You are given projects and chances to present yourself.
Depends on the day to day data we get. Sometimes projects are piled on so you have more work. Some tasks are on-going on a daily basis i.e reports, so its more relaxed. Others have tight deadlines which need to be completed. Sometimes, it may be work that your team depends on and becomes top priority.
You are given a certain amount of responsibility. Again, depends on your team. In some cases with interns they're in a team which is full and you just become an extra hand. In which case your work isnt of the greatest need. In some cases you may be the next point of call if a manager is out or deadlines are up. In which case you are placed which higher responsibility to get the job done. JP Morgan is a global firm and many times my work is depended on in other countries so you do get a fair bit of weight on your shoulders.
My degree isnt aligned to banking in general but the skills I used during university are still applied here. I've polished those skills being here because you're working on real life situations in which you actually have to put in the extra hours if needed. Its definetely made me more confident in my abilities. They provide great training resources which have helped me understand the industry in much greater detail.
The Company
Relaxed yet hard at work. Many people are in and out of the office on calls/conferences etc.
Decently organised, events spread across the time period with oppotunities to enjoy the sights/BBQs and networking events. Information sessions and weekly newsletters informing us of our progress and the firm's development
Training resources pushed out and emphasised. Many oppotunities to meet new collegues or executives. They provide great learning tools but always reminded that its up to you to make the most of what you get. You have to be proactive enough to search for what you want to learn and develop skills in. There are courses online and in classes to help you improve. You get advisors and buddys and meet new workers who can potentially guide you but again, you get out what you put in.

They push interns to move into graduate positions and so create a nice transition for students. A seamless move if offered a job, no need to reapply or to interview again which makes the move more appealing. Sessions to inform us of the type of work you could potentially do, new programs built and the investment they make into making sure we graduate as analysts. Scope for promotion as soon as you complete a program which makes the move more appealing.
The Culture
The setup made with other interns was perfect. Location played a big part as majority of interns lived together/close to each other during the time period. It allowed us to socialise with each other after work/weekends and created a strong community between us. Again, the networking events were sometimes purely for interns and projects were created in which we have to work with other students. This all allowed us to become more comfortable with each other and evidently make new friends.
Renting was pretty standard as most of the UK/London is. Socially not too bad. Located near the beach so it wasnt more the cost of the area but the amount of times we spent going out!
Nightlife was great, due to it being more a tourist area a lot of places where open late. Clubs and bars open and a lot of social events took place on the weekends. I think these events and weekend evenings that the interns spent together overall contributed greatly to the enjoyment of the internship.
All the time, due to location it made things like this easier. Being around the beach allowed us to take part in many water sports. Again its up to you to organise and get together. JetSki's and Kayaking, windsurfing and paddleboats. Zipwires and cycling trips. I cant count the number of BBQs we had! These were outside of work and didnt really assosiate with Jp Morgan but the firm did have many events such as go karting and total wipeout as part of their initiatives to make this area more entertaining for interns.
