The Role
The placement was very enjoyable, gave a great deal of insight into the company's operation and a chance to experience being part of a development team. Bank of America is a very nice and relaxed place to work at.
I genuinely felt as a part of the team I was working with. I was given real tasks that needed to be done and had my work valued greatly by other teammembers. All the products of my work became regularly used by the company.
The internship programme comes with a lot of training events and all colleagues are very happy to help whenever help is needed. A lot of support is available with regards to both technical as well as business challenges
I finished my assignment after about a month and still had a month left before the end of the internship. In the first half I felt the workload was alright, in the second half I sometimes felt I could have done more work and had to look for other things to do.
I was given a task to develop a real application used by employees on the trading floor. This made me feel that the work I am doing is really useful and worth doing. I also felt a lot of responsibility as other employees are currently relying on my code working fine.
I learned a lot about working as a part of a team in a large company. This helped me a lot to improve my teamwork skills. However, from the technical point of view the work I have been asked to do was not that challenging and I could have learnt more.
The Company
The athmosphere was very relaxed and the office was a very nice place to be at. Everybody was friendly, happy to help and open to any questions.
The internship was very well organised. There were a lot of events organised by the company for interns. This includes both networking as well as learning events. We had a chance to meet a lot of interesting people (including the CEO of Bank of America)
The company was obviously willing to invest a lot in terms of both time as well as money. This made a really good impression showing that the company cares a lot about its interns.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
The company offers full-time employment contract to all interns that have performed well during the internship and are interested in comming back. This is a part of a graduate programme offered by the company.
The Culture
The office, being located in Canary Wharf, is set in quite an expensive area. On the other hand the company organises a lot of events that are subsidised or offer free drinks and food. This offers a lot of opportunities for socialising.
There was a lot of opportunity to get involved in activities outside of work. This included evening events organised by the HR department or a a lot of opportunities for volunteering around the office area.
