The Role
I have learnt so much in this placement and been exposed to many opportunities such as travelling to Scotland, training courses etc, although I seemed to be in charge of the performing the same few jobs, so did not seem as challenging after a while.
Everyone was very welcoming and patient when explaining things
I was encouraged to push myself out of my comfort zone by performing experiements alone, but always had support when needed. I was always encouraged to go on any training opportunities that arised.
I was always busy, but there is a good balance of practical and theoretical work.
I was working alone for many experiements so had to be responsible for ensuring the data collected was done as well as could be expected.
I have learnt a lot of practical skills, as well as communication skills especially for report writing. I have also had to work along side a variety of people from the factory.
The Company
It is quite quiet in the office, which on the whole can be good, but sometimes it is a little too quiet
It was all very well organised, everything was fully explained during the training on the first two days of the placement
I was encouraged to do the ImechE MPDS scheme where Cummins provided a mentor, I took part in many training events organised by Cummins and other companies.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
National Travel
Above 25 days holiday
I have really enjoyed working for Cummins, I was able to fit in so easily and you are treated as an Engineer
The Culture
We tried to organise something between us every month or so
It is about average
Daventry is quite a small town, so the nightlife here is not brilliant, but Rugby, Leamington Spa and Northampton are not too far away which made a much better night out
Cummins expects you to be involved in at least one community project during the year. I took part in Imagineering which is an afterschool club making engineering projects such as robot cars, windmill generators, hydraulic arms
