The Role
Extremely demanding, intellectually challenging and rewarding work. Constantly pushed to learn and develop further whilst adding value to the team.
All members of the company, irrespective of seniority gave a lot of time when appropriate to develop, learn and explore new areas.
High level of support from management when necessary, with required tasks clearly outlined and time framed to work towards.
Worked hard and well for long hours, although being in markets meant there was clearly defined limits to the day and a options to leave as necessary.
Was given meaningful work that directly fed into the teams personal work and results, the team gave complete responsibility of the outcome of these tasks to me, although with guidance as needed.
Given this is my career of choice, although skills; mathematical, technical and soft-skills will help future career and development.
The Company
Very smooth process from beginning to the end. One critique would be that a short one or two sentence summary of the various teams would be useful as the industry uses many specific titles that make some uncertainty when working and visiting completely new teams.
Traders on the floor were very generous with their time to develop and train me, the interaction with them was invaluable.
Company Parties/Events
Company is actively hiring across almost all departments and is very eager to select and retain talent. Whilst competitors are consolidating this company is developing many business areas.
The Culture
Interns were extremely outgoing and regular socialising occurred, always easy to find people to meet up with and relax when appropriate.
Canary Wharf is not cheap, but that is commonly known and salaries were appropriate to compensate for the high costs.
Canary Wharf doesn't have a nightlife and it isn't necessary as it is a short tube ride into the centre of London, so was not an issue.
In London one can do pretty much anything you want to do, the scope of activities is almost limitless if you have the time and interest.
