The Role
Great experience. A good mixture of social events, personal tasks, collaborative tasks within project and exposure to business.
I was given responsibilities and tasks that allowed me to actively participate in the software delivery process.
I had frequent informal conversations with my manager and other team members but I also had a buddy from a different team to give me objective/external point of view.
My working hours were prety normal 9 to 5:30 but every now and then I did stay a bit late to familiarise myself with new systems. I have done also a bit of out-of-office learning and online courses to keep on improve my performance and understanding.
On daily bases I had to pick and complete specific tasks that were a part of our development sprint.
I truly appreciate the opportunite to develop good understanding of a new programming language and I am concidering applying this knowledge to my final year project.
The Company
The level of organisation exceeded my expectations and therefore, the general atmosphere was quite calm. The work was challenging and difficult at times but the structure of the team did not allow for too much distress or noise.
There were frequent meetings with my buddy and manager to discuss performance related topics. In addition to that, there were weekly meetings with a career councelor and plenty of human resource organised events including open lectures and socials.
There was a one week training that gave overview of the business of the bank and also provided us with ground level training in the individual skills we would require on our day to day jobs. Once the initial introduction week was complete there were frequent events that kept updating us on general structural changes and even particular new technologies the bank is inclined to use.

I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with Bank of America Merrill Lynch after I graduate.
The Culture
There was a general good communication with other interns and colleagues. The frequent social events have definitely brought us together.
Quite expensive. The internship was based in Canary Wharf and there you can hardly find any food for less than £5 but when you compare it to the salary we were getting it was bearable.
Great nightlife opportunities. The pubs around Canary Wharf were full most of the time but we did not go out only around the Canary Wharf area. Most of our socials were in the City.
In the 10 week internship I had two opportunities to participate in off-site events where we did some phisical volunteery work. Those events were also good team building activities.
