The Role
Very enjoyable, always kept busy, given a lot of guidance and help. Citi has a great culture where everyone is available and seems to have the time for you.
I felt more valued as the internship goes on, but it is important to note, that no one expects you to know everything. However, if you show a keen interest and are pro-active, then people respect that (in my opinion.)
In the first few weeks, my managers arranged frequent meetings to make sure I was on track and understood the project. From that, point onwards, it's down to you to understand your project's targets and crack on.
Incredibly busy on a day to day basis, however, this is down to you. If you don't ask for more work or take the initiative, you can be left without a project. No one is going to check up on you all the time and hold your hand.
A lot, I was given 10 clients to work with, and was thrown straight into the deep end with the work. This was great, as I felt I learnt more and had more exposure, than if I was left alone.
With regards to my degree, the main skill I can say is using Excel. With regards to my career, the communication skills and the network you create during your internship are the most important things (again, in my opinion.)
The Company
Great - couldn't be better. Surrounded by friendly/motivated people.
Very well - frequent meetings with HR to make sure that you are making the most of your time here.
This is very hard to quantify, but they gave me a lot of responsibility and guidance.
That's a question for HR. I'd like to think that they are quite good though.
The Culture
Yes! If certain business areas have not already organised drinks, the interns usually get together 2-3 times a week to go out for drinks, dinner, etc.
I go to university in London, so I had my student house. But, in general, in London it is very easy to go over you spending limit.
Incredible - you're in the heart of London, so there is so much going on all the time.
There were, such as Citi Choir, Citi Arts Club etc. It all depends how willing you are to commit to those alongside the hours you put in everyday.
