    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed it very much, I got a lot of opportunities to explore the company and to develop my skills, and meet people working on all sorts of positions

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very much. To be honest I did not expect such welcoming and relaxed atmosphere in an investment bank, and the attitude and appreciation of my colleagues made a very good experience

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • To the extent I asked for it. In Bank of America Merrill Lynch help is always available to you, but you have to ask for it. Everybody is very approachable and eager to help you solve your problems

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied. There were some days I could focus on small tasks aimed at my personal development but on a few occasions I had to stay later in the office to get my work for the day done.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was working in an intern team that was given its own project to work on. We were solely responsible for all the work we have done, which made it even more interesting and engaging

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As the internship revolved around different things that I focus on at uni, it was very enriching and I gained a lot of hands-on experience and developed new skills during the internship. I expect to utilize it mainly in my professional career, but degree study as well

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Quite relaxed, yet focused on excellence and delivery. People are generally working hard, but are not afraid to take some time off for a chat or coffee and everybody seems content and not stressed. The graduates also bring in a healthy amount of quality banter.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There were a few issues with setting up systems at the beginning which slowed us in work in the first few weeks. Once this was resolved however, it was mostly seamless

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had a lot of talks from employees at various positions and hence got a good overview of the bank as such. There were also a couple of seminars focused purely on professional development which helped us develop transferable skills

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Before the internship I was not considering career in banking much but BofAML showed me this is definitely an option, mainly thanks to the company culture and atmosphere in the office

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The HR organised several events for the interns which were always good fun, and on top of that the interns got together on several occasions for coffee or drinks - people were generally friendly and sociable.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I worked in Canary Wharf, where costs of food and drinks are higher than what a student would be readily willing to pay. Since I lived in the flat I live in during academic year, living costs were not a factor for me.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife was not crazy, it was mostly drinks and chat, which was okay. The interns also didn't go out together on a weekly basis, simply because they also had other friends and didn't exactly feel the need

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were several opportunities for the interns to join sports trainings and networks within the company, which organised events - everybody was free to join as many as they wished

    3/5
