The Role
- I have thoroughly enjoyed my internship. I have been able to learn an incredible amount about the industry as well as within the specific sector I interned in. - I have been given great opportunities to enhance my technical understanding of the job role, as well as working on softer skills too.
- I have felt extremely valued by my colleagues, they have spent a lot of their time explaining and answering questions relating to the work I have been set. - All members of the team have been very approachable, and have actively encouraged me to ask them about anything I have wanted clarifying.
- The guidance given has been helpful in assisting me develop my skill set and understanding of the role an analyst would play in the team. - My manager has been very clear about objectives for the Internship, and all reviews of my performance have been clear and constructive
- Investment Banking in general is a very intensive career and my experience reflected this. All interns including myself were kept busy on a number of important projects for the team as well as smaller Ad-hoc work as well. - The workflow did vary somewhat between weeks, but usually maintained a consistent high tempo which I valued as it offered me the exposure I was looking for in an Internship.
- I feel as if I was given relatively high responsibility during the internship which gradually increased over the duration as I became more competent and familiar with the work I was processing. - The high amount of responsibility has been a benefit in terms of helping me conclude that this industry is the one I want to start a career within, and has increased my learning curve.
- The skills developed will without a doubt assist me in any future role I take within this industry. The training provided beforehand was also especially beneficial in giving us a core understanding of accounting and valuation. - I also assume that the accounting skills developed will assist me in my financial modules I plan to undertake in the final year of university.
The Company
- The atmosphere was fairly relaxed with a fair amount of interaction between junior and senior members of the team and between teams. - There was more of a fast-pace surrounding tight deadlines as you would expect, but the atmosphere is dramatically different from the trading floors.
- HR did a great job with organising the internship events which were very enjoyable and varied. - The focus on one sector within IBD was a great bonus, as it allowed a specialisation in the particular industry to be developed.
- We received a comprehensive training programme consisting of online modules to complete before the internship began. - We also received a week of training at the start of the internship programme relating to accounting/excel/Factset/Bloomberg.

Company Parties/Events
- I am still in the final weeks of my internship, but if I receive an offer I will gladly accept. - I feel like JP Morgan has a distinctive culture which sets it apart from its competitors.
The Culture
- On our floor there were 13 Interns, and we organised several social events between ourselves during the 10 weeks. - HR also set up many official networking/social events for all of the interns to take part in.
- Cost of living/socialising in Canary Wharf is as would be expected very expensive, but was manageable based on our salary. - Socialising was seen as key in order to build networks and networking skills so I took full advantage of the opportunity to spend time outside of the office getting to know fellow interns and colleagues when the opportunities arose.
- Nightlife around Canary Wharf is limited, however in the city/west London where we could easily travel too, provided great nightlife. - Due to the demands of the job, we did not have too many opportunities to explore London's nightlife, but did go out on a few occasions.
- There were limited opportunities to join the sports teams set up by JP Morgan although many markets interns did so, but HR set up scheduled events for us which we were able to attend and enjoy. - The company gym was available to go to during free time in the afternoon, which helped with general fitness.
