The Role
The Fidelity internship gave me an excellent insight to the company and my division. I was able to work closely with my colleagues and learn how effectively model and present my findings. There was flexibility to work at your own pace while attending the meetings to learn more about the process.
I was given a lot of responsibility early on in the summer, and often asked for my opinion of investment ideas. I was free to take my own views on the ideas and the staff were enthusiastic to hear my opinion even if they had contrary views. People were always happy to meet for a coffee.
The internship was very well organised. There was good support from both the HR and management with my team. Due to the nature of being on a single project the majority of the feedback comes towards the end of the internship, however, there is always opportunities to review your work with the analyst.
I would usually get in the office around 7.30 in the morning to catch up with any news and listen to the morning meetings. Then the work balance was determined by yourself and how much you wanted to. Usually finished around 6.30, more demanding towards the end of the internship when I was working to finish the project.
I was given my own project for the summer and given guidance on how to complete the project, but ultimately I was my own responsibility on what I did. The nature of one project meant the option of what content to include and how to present were determined by yourself with guidance from analysts.
There was one week of basic training at the start which was very useful Then the on the job training was from the analyst etc was very useful going forward. Having prior knowledge of Excel and cash flow will be advantageous. The skills learnt to model the companies will be valuable in further studies and employment.
The Company
Very friendly and people were happy to help.
The organisation of the internship was excellent. HR and the management were fully involved in the whole process. Managers were happy for you to attend all of the social events and learning opportunities organised by HR. Periodic reviews were set up with both the managements and HR to discuss your progress and any issues.
They invested a lot of time in the training of the interns and support for them. Interns were treated as an equal member of the team and given a lot of responsibility early on. The interns are encourage to attend all the meetings with the senior members of staff and can input to them.

Very appealing and good follow through from the internship onto the graduate program if you are successful. They gave you a good foundation on the internship to learn from the experience members of staff which will be very valuable in either further studies at university or future employment within the industry.
The Culture
Yes excellent.
London is an expensive place to live, especially in central. However, Fidelity provided accommodation over the summer period within Zone 1 for the interns. The offices were only a short tube ride away or about a 15 to 20 minute walk. Very convenient and ideal for a London finance internship.
London city nightlife is an excellent place to have a drink after work.
There were several socials organised by Fidelity. They organised curry nights and a social away at the other offices as well as bi weekly lunches from senior members of staff around the office. London also has a lot of opportunities for young people to get involved and learn more about finance.
