The Role
It was great, I learnt so much in such a short period of time. All of the colleagues that worked in my team were really friendly and willing to help and the projects that I was given to do were varied and interesting.
For the most part, I felt very valued by colleagues. I attended all team and development meetings and was taught about the correct terminology that was used in meetings.
A whole team is tasked with the management of interns, as well as every intern being given their own line manager which is extremely useful for personal development.
Most of the time I had something to do. There were times where I didn't have as much to do as I would have liked. However, if you want more to do, you have to do ensure that you have good communication with you and your manager, to ensure that you are productively using your time.
A lot of responsibility. I lead a number of projects that were important such as designing and ordering a thank you banner in time for a large scale event with one of the partners, which was great.
We were given a CV writing and interview skills workshop that was really helpful for personal development. I have learnt so much, all of which I think will be hugely useful in my future career. From teamwork skills, to office skills, getting used to working 9-5 in an office environment, I think the internship will be a huge asset to me in the future.
The Company
Great, friendly, collaborative work environment. Slightly competitive, but not at all uncomfortable. Everyone is driven to get the best out of each other and the team as a whole.
Really well organised. The intern manager Rachael is incredible at her job and really easy to speak to if you have any problems or queries.
We had a CV writing and interview skills workshop as well as a workshop at the beginning of the internship to discuss how to get the best out of the placement. On top of this, interns are allowed to apply for the same training as CRUK colleagues and so I attended an 'Influencing and Persuading' workshop which was great.
Great, it seems that there is a good possibility that if you complete the internship you can get a job at the end of the placement.
The Culture
Yeah, we organised fundraising events together which was really fun!
Travel and living costs in London are very high, but CRUK pays travel the expenses of interns are provides up to £4 a day lunch if receipts are provided.
Lots of lovely pubs and restaurants in the area.
Lots and lots of opportunities to fundraise and volunteer for CRUK or their partner organisations.
