The Role
I really enjoyed it and really got comfortable with the team I was placed with because the length of time was just right. HR also made the first week very enjoyable with plenty of networking sessions to help encourage all the interns to get to know each other.
Without rotations I was able to really get to know my team through spending 10 weeks with them. This meant that I was able to learn more and do more challenging work which meant they valued me.
Because I was the only intern my team had and had ever had they were very supportive because they were able to focus fairly on my development. Rotations would have made personal guidance less available
Initially not very as I was mainly shadowing, but this increased throughout my time to the extent that I had to stay late to work on group projects assigned by HR. But at no point did I feel like the work's deadlines were inacheivable
Through spending 10 weeks on the same desk I was given more challenging work as time went on and the level of responsibility increased as my confidence and ability improved
In terms of degree studies there will be very little application because I learnt more practically how to do my job rather than the general industry. However, the skill will be applicable to future jobs
The Company
I worked in operations where the atmosphere was very friendly on the basis that the team members have to interact a lot with each other rather than be contained to their own work.
The first week was very well organised. There was one social or networking event almost every week. However the work which we did was solely down to us asking our managers/other employees rather than it being pre-organised. However, this was a test within itself rather than having all the work laid out it gave us the ability to use our initiative
Throughout the internship I felt well invested in by my team. Furthermore, we had 2 internship review meetings with human resources which encouraged us to set targets and make sure we were thinking about our own personal development. We also had some strong general training in week 1
Sports and Social Club
Really appealing especially as JPMorgan strongly encourages mobility
The Culture
very much so, this was also well encouraged by the format of the internship which let us get to know each other in the induction week
Very high in the city of London based in the Victoria embankment office
really good and there were socials organised by the JP social committee and HR
There were some opportunities to join sports teams however I was unable to attend because of clash with Tuesday evening compulsory training sessions for interns
