The Role
The internship was very engaging. I was given a rather challenging and time-consuming individual project, that was closely related to my teams work. I received all the support I required and my work was taken seriously during the internship by colleagues.
My project was relevant to the team, so my work was taken seriously by my colleagues and my input was valued. In terms of socialising and participating in out-of-work activities I was treated same as every other employee on the team.
Obviously my colleagues were busy with their own projects and could not supervise me at all times, but I was given al the support I required and could freely ask for help, guidance and support. I would often schedule meetings with colleagues to discuss areas of my work I was unsure of, and that was never a problem.
I wasn't particularly forced in to work by hard deadlines, but my project was challenging enough to keep me busy at all times and even work a little extra if I felt like it. I was never bored or had nothing to do.
The project I was working on was not of critical importance, so I did not feel much pressure or stress, but my colleagues and supervisors were were interested in my project, as it was very useful to the team. I think this is was very good for me as it motivated to work hard to do the best job I could, without the stress of setting my colleagues back.
My technical skills improved significantly with both technologies I used previously and completely new ones. The internship also greatly helped me find motivation to learn and simply trained me to pick up new skills faster. My colleagues helped me greatly improve my ability to approach new problems as well, which is critical during studies.
The Company
Everyone took their jobs and responsibilities very seriously, which I think is very good, as it is easier to work in a professional environment. That said, people did talk about their interests and hobbies rather freely and often organised social and networking events, so the overall atmosphere was very friendly and comfortable.
This is the third internship I have done in the past 2 years and it is by far the best organised one. My manager was prepared for me, had decided on the best project to assign me to and had all the tools ready for me from day 1. All the interns received all the support they needed and many events were organised specifically to get us more acquainted with the company.
The company invested a lot of time and money to make sure I (and all the other interns I knew) received the necessary training and tools to best develop and prove themselves during the internships. I was taken very seriously as a potential candidate for a future full-time employee.

J.P. Morgan clearly make a great effort to ensure employees feel welcome and valued, and it was no different for interns. Provided we proved ourselves to be good employees, we all had the opportunity to become graduate employees after the internship.
The Culture
There were many social/networking events organised during the summer both by the recruiters and the interns themselves. We were generally very social and friendly.
It's hard to compare, but I would say Glasgow is a very good place to do an internship in the UK, as living costs here are lower than in other big UK cities, but there is still plenty to do and see.
I am not really a person that goes out much, but the music scene in Glasgow is one of the biggest in the world and the prices are comparatively low. Interns often organised nights out, so there is always stuff do do if that's your thing.
Yes, many activities were organised for interns specifically, but the company also offers many clubs and activities for the rest of the employees as well, all of which were accessible to interns. The colleagues were very forthcoming and accepting of interns in that regard as well.
