The Role
Achieving results within my role was very satisfying however my enjoyment of the job was enhanced by the colleauges and friends i met throughout the placement
I did not have the full capabilities of some of my colleagues however i felt that the more i learnt throughout the year, enhanced the value felt by those working around me.
The year began slowly unfortunately as i began in a role nobody had done before so there was no direct guidance of the role. However, over the year, as the role has become established, the role can be passed on with greater support and clarity.
To do the basic job description would have left me with free time. To prevent this i explored opportunities to enhance my skills and learning outside of my basic job description.
As i was viewed as an expert within my area of work, my judgement was trusted. Seperately i was able to work collaboratively with colleagues to explore ideas to resolve issues.
I have become a more motivated and interested person. I would hope i am much better equiped to overcome the work barrier, come the end of my studies. My year in industry has offered an insight i would never have encountered had i not taken the risk of a year out!
The Company
The working environment was not as lively and fast paced as i might have liked.
As previously mentioned there was a level of uncertainty at the beginning of the placement. However, through the year, this has been clarified to produce a much more efficient handover to replacements of the role.
I was given freedom to attend learning events outside of my job role to enhance my degree area interest. In addition i was never down an opportunity to meet with staff in other locations of the business to enhance my understanding.
Flexi Time
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
I understand there are many graduate opportunities which are definately worth exploring.
The Culture
I was the only placement student
I lived in Leeds and not York which added to my travel costs, this was my choice though.
A few nice bars but not a lot else.
There were charity events. Only one or two appealed to me.
