The Role
The project I was given to do was quite challenging and required a lot of attention and effort, which I truly appreciate as this allowed me to learn a lot in regards to both my technical ability and work ethic.
My colleagues were very welcoming when I started my internship and friendly throughout my internship. However, most of them time, I didn't really interact with them, partly due to the fact my project made me segregated from the rest of the team, so it is hard to judge how valued I was by certain team members.
I was given a lot of support and guidance by my manager. He was also a very good mentor. He often challenged the way I worked and the questions I asked, making me think and learn how to perform in a more efficient and effective way.
I am generally quite busy on a daily basis and have stayed a late on quite a few nights. There are many opportunities to network which I did not take on due to the fact that I had work to do, though I personally preferred the work to networking.
I feel like I was given quite a bit of responsibility. My project was mostly my work, with my manager guiding me. During the start of my internship, I felt I was given too much responsibility but this helped me learn the ropes quite quickly.
I developed my technical skills in regards to coding in Python and being able to study large code bases. I also developed my ability to debug and ask the right questions to get the answers I need to solve problems.
The Company
The general atmosphere was very friendly and fun. There were some times where it was very quiet but overall the office was a great place to be.
The organisation of my internship was set up very well. I thought the networking events were very well spread out throughout my time at the company.
The firm invests a lot in training as there are many courses for employees to take. There are many courses I took, which taught me many things about the finance industry.
Sports and Social Club
They are very appealing. J.P. Morgan is a very large company and this means it can provide me with many opportunities to develop myself professionally.
The Culture
There is a good social scene between the interns. We often spend time together during lunch and after work. The social scene within my team is almost non-existent.
Cost is very high.
Nightlife is very good.
Not really, I tried to join the J.P. Morgan tennis club but I never got a reply to my email.
