The Role
Working in research within a bank is extremely exciting and satisfying. I learnt a lot during the 10 weeks spent with the bank and what I really enjoyed about my time here is the fact that research involves thinking and allows you to be the owner of your ideas which you deliever in the best way to help investors make intelligent investments.
My team respected and took into consideration my ideas which were even included in some of the reports they wrote. That felt very satisfying and I was happy to be given the chance to contribute to their work. Additionally, I was given work and projects that matched my interests, so I was able to expand my knowledge also on subjects I am genuinely interested in.
Both my manager and my buddy were very supportive and guided me through the internship, which made me feel confident that I can manage to do a good job in such a fast-pacing environment. They directed me to books and reports to read, they showed me and explained me how things work in research and taught me the important tools I need in order to succeed in this job.
The internship is what you make out of it. That is why I have always asked for more work, in order to better understand what the job entails and to learn as much as possible. How busy one is depends on what is happening in the markets. I was lucky enough to be with the bank when very exciting stories made the headlines in the market and I really enjoyed contributing to the team's work.
Every week I was working on different projects with different members of the team, so the work varied and was challenging as I learnt about many sectors and markets. I helped with researching and writing different reports from an early stage during my internship which made me more excited and willing to put more effort into the quality of my work.
I am confident that what I learnt here will help me in my further studies as I will focus on Financial Mathematics, but also in my career. As I really wish to continue with this job here, I believe that the new skills I developed provided me with an excellent starting point in this career.
The Company
It was the perfect balance between a firendly and fun place to work with people always willing to help and a quiet environment where you can develop your ideas and carry out quality research. That made me very excited to go to work every morning.
With different projects every week, I was always learning something new and kept continuously engaged and alert. I beleive that the programme in credit research was organised in such way that I got fully exposed to all types or work and research carried out by the team. I really enjoyed that. Also, the events organised by the campus recruitment were very well-thought through and I managed to meet a lot of people working in different divisions thanks to that.
In fixed income, we had one week and a half of high-quality training, both with external and internal people. In terms of personal development, we were all assigned mentors, managers and buddies to help us do well during the internship. There are also other facilities in the bank to reach out for help or learn more about how to succeed in this working environment, and the campus recruitment team has done a great job to make us aware of all the opportunities around us through different events they organised.

The Culture
The City is never a cheap place, however we were taken out many times by either our teams or the campus recruitment team which was nice.
Nightlife was great fun, my team was very keen on making sure interns feel part of the team. There are many bars and pubs around the area where we work, and the interns usually go to one of them after work on Fridays.
There are a lot of volunteering opportunties one can get involved in. In the beginning of the internship, we all participated in this community work project which involved actual work on a field. Also, there are many clubs for those interested in football or any other sports, giving you the chance to keep fit, meet new people and have some fun. For interns, we had an intern mixed touch rugby competition, which was a lot of fun.
