The Role
Excellent job - good range of challenges and tasks. Expanded my knowledge, understanding and skill greatly.
Very close team who provided great support, mentoring and coaching. Treated as part of the team - give the "real" work not just small side-projects to keep me quiet
Great support structure through mentoring with a senior leader, coaching by a peer and coaching from line managers. Also given training with external supplier.
Busy - worked on out of hours tasks, had plenty to do. Real work from the queue with real clients.
Primary support contact for live production systems. Led major environment wide projects on live production systems. Trated as a normal day-to-day DBA
Had no skill set or experience in SQL Server prior to placement - finished with exposure to a large enterprise environment, formal vendor-approved training, understanding of ITIL. Greatly helped in final year project as had practical skills, enhanced learning and concentration skills and ability to tackle problems.
The Company
Friendly, warm and supportive. Other Placement Students in the office which provided a support network.
Very good. Structured 1 week introduction with external training. Less structure once in position but did have some target setting and performance review.
Formal induction with external training. Specific product training with external supplier (price paid at market level) with internal web based and instructor led training.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Got a job.
The Culture
Small number of placement students in same office but commuted in, therefore after hours was limited. Some social opportunities with colleagues. Limited by the out-of-London location
