The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. I liked meeting different clients and working with different colleagues. I also enjoyed the variety of tasks I was given.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. They gave me a wide variety of tasks, all varying in difficulty, and was given good feedback throughout.
I was given a lot of support throughout the placement, from my appraisal manager, colleagues working on the clients I was assigned to and other colleagues in my office.
I was constantly working on different tasks, asking for further work when these were completed.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility whilst on placement. I carried out tasks of varying difficulty, some tasks of difficulty higher than was expected from me. I also regularly spoke with the client, gaining information needed by the team.
As I am studying accounting and finance, my experience will help me a lot in my studies. I am also looking for a career in accounting, therefore this experience is extremely valuable.
The Company
Everyone in my office was really friendly and approachable, meaning I was able to ask questions and gain advice when needed. I learnt a lot about their experiences, helping me to consider my options within accounting.
Overall the placement was well organised. I was initially told 3 clients I was working on and the colleagues I would be working with. One of the clients I was assigned to changed but I was notified in advance. The only thing which could have been improved is receiving our laptops on the first day, we had to download a program which was vital for our placement and there were some problems with this, therefore the first day seemed slightly wasted.
I was taught how to do a lot of different tests, taught the reasons behind doing them as well as the process. Therefore I felt the firm invested in me.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
I think this looks like an appealing career, as there is a lot of variety and the opportunity to pursue a professional qualification.
The Culture
Unfortunately there were no social events during my 4 weeks with KPMG, however I have been invited to events after my placement. I took part in a CSR day in my first week, which enabled me to get to know my colleagues well.
It didn't vary any to my current cost of living and socialising.
I didn't have an opportunity to experience the nightlife, but I believe social nights with the office are a great night.
As I was only on a 4 week placement, there wasn't a great opportunity to get involved in any activities.
