The Role
It is one of the best places for the internship: you have the opportunity to meet tet-a-tet Managers and Managing Directors, participate in Citizenship events, listen to useful and intresting lectures, do a research as a part of your internship, present your research in front of senior people, have a valuable feedback about your performance from your line manager, communicate with smart, enthusiastic people, learn about banking, improve you language (if necessary) and even find new friends (there are a lot of networking events).
Nearly all colleagues highly value new-comers and extremely support them in the beginning. All my proposals and ideas have been considered and I have received valuable feedback on my pervormance. Even if my questions were simple, my colleagues always help me to answer them.
During our internship each intern has a line manager, a buddy and a mentor (optional). My manager supports nearly all my initiatives and provides valuable advice about my project. My buddy helps me to get accustomed to the life in Barclays. My mentor always gives me useful advice on how to behave in difficult situations. To sum up, I always feel the support from people around me at Barclays.
My main responsibilities during my internship are to do my project and attend relevant financial lectures. Nobody depends on me and, therefore, I can plan my time in the best way for me. Actually, there is always a lot of work and I am very busy on a daily basis, because my project is very challenging, but nobody expects me to be in the office from morning till night.
My project is very challenging and if I cope with it, It will be a big contribution to my department. However, nobody depends on me, as expected, because I am just an intern here. Thus, in the case of my mistake It will not be a problem for my department., but I feel a big responsibility to finish my project, because I will help my colleagues to speed up their work.
Since it is my first internship, everything in the production is new and fascinating for me. Barclays helps me to obtain an extremely valuable experience, which is, undoubtedly, will help me in my future career. Now I know which financial models are used in the production, what is going on on the trading floor, how the banking system is organised… I had the opportunity of presenting my project in front of the senior people and obtained the valuable feedback. So, I am completely satisfied with my internship.
The Company
The Atmosphere here supports people to work hard, study new things and share their experience. Nevertheless, nobody is obsessive about work and deadlines. All colleagues are smart, sophisticated, friendly, helpful and enthusiastic. As for me, I am constantly inspired here to do something valuable for Barclays and its employees.
My desk is organised perfectly: I have everything that makes my working day comfortable and profitable. I have enough room to place all my things, the whole equipment is qualitative and new. The whole internship is thought-out perfectly. To sum up, I have the best conditions to work productively here.
In my opinion, the company invests a lot: we have a lot of useful trainings, valuable financial lectures and networking events. We have the opportunity to meet in person Managers and Managing Directors, who can answer nearly all our questions. In addition we are supported to study a lot and present our ideas.

Company Parties/Events
For me these prospects are extremely appealing: the whole hierarchy system is transparent and clear, smart people always can realise their ambitions in the right way, there are a lot of opportunities here, the working experience at Barclays is very valuable and useful, I also appreciate and agree with the values of Barclays.
The Culture
It is a first internship for me and I cannot compare my own experiences. Nevertheless, based on the conversations with my peers, I can say that In comparison to other fellow placement students/colleagues, here there is a very good social scene. This is because, in the first place, of Barclays values and its smart and helpful employees.
I am from another country with absolutely different history and traditions of going business and, as a result, for me, in the begging, it was hard to socialise in this area. Nevertheless, I was always supported by my colleagues and, therefore, the cost of living and socialising here is much less than can be. I think, this internship certainly worths candles.
At night I prefer to stay at home, but London is an extremely busy city with rich Nightlife. If you are busy at work and leave your working place only at night (it happens sometimes, but not encouraged), you always see people on the streets, open supermarkets, bars and even working public transport (buses). I also want to emphasize, that I feel myself safe at night in Canary Wharf, where I am working and renting the apartment.
There are a lot of opportunities to be involved in activities outside of work: I am working in the Canary Wharf, where there are sport clubs and regular public events. In addition, Barclays supports its employees to participate in networking, charity and sport events. Actually, employees here are not encouraged to work from early morning till deep night and, therefore, they have enough free time for their hobbies and families.
