The Role
I really enjoyed the work placement, from the outset they give you interesting and challenging work that allows you to apply the skills that you have learnt in education and actually contribute to the projects which you are undertaking
As you are performing work which actually contributes to the projects progress, you feel valued by your colleagues as you are helping them with tasks which otherwise would have to be picked up by someone else, adding to their workload
You are thrown into the deep end a bit and more guidance would have been useful when starting the placement. However at the same time managers are very approachable if you do have any queries or questions about the work you have been set and are more than happy to help
There is always plenty to keep you busy, I was initially set a work schedule for each project which helps you to manage your time effectively. However if you finish then there are always other tasks that you can do to help out the team
You're not asked to lead a team, however as you're a trainee this is to be expected. As I was on the audit internship I was given a range of tasks which varied in responsibility. This again makes you feel more valued than always being given the easier tasks
You gain a wide variety of skills that will provide a good grounding for any career, even something simple like talking to the clients will allow you to project yourself in a professional way and will always be useful
The Company
I wasn't really in the office much as on audit you are mostly out at clients working in smaller teams, however here there is always a good atmosphere and it allows you to get on better with people than in a big office
Despite some initial confusion for the second day the rest of the month went really smoothly, you know in plenty of time where you are going to be for the next week and there are staff available to help with any travel arrangements that you need to make
With the placement being only a moth long there wasn't that much training but i did receive feedback on all my projects to highlight my strengths and where i needed to improve.. However if you do get a job offer in audit then for the next 3 years they will be investing in you as you work towards the ACA qualification

National Travel
Very good, it is such a big company with so many different career paths for you to pursue. They also offer secondments from one department to another or to another office in the UK or abroad. These are work placements for usually 6-12 months which allow you to broaden your experience and could lead to a permanent placement if you prefer the new work
The Culture
I lived away from home and travelled back at weekends so didnt really look into any activities
I stayed with some family so I didn't have any accommodation costs in nottingham. KPMG will reimburse you for any travel costs to clients and you also get a lunch allowance which is slightly more if working away from the office.
Again as I was going home at weekends I never went out in Nottingham
There are always emails going through the system about activities outside of work whether it is someones leaving drinks or as it was near the start of the season a fantasy football league. If you are there on a more permanent basis there are also sports clubs that you can join
