    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My work placement had a great mix between social aspects and a real in-depth insight into the working world. I was working on a real project with experts in the industry, gaining skills that will not only benefit me here but for the rest of my working life and outside of that. I was treated as a member of the team and included in all levels of meetings. I was not treated as a secretary

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I've already slightly mentioned this. But I was not treated as an intern I was treated as a team member, there was the odd occasion that I had work that wasn't to my preference , but this would have been fulfilled by a graduate in this position. I was able to have open and honest conversations with my manager and my comments were taken on board.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had an actual manager but then also a member of the team who was to hand at all times to offer me advice. Although I was encouraged to use my own intiative when I was genuinely stuck there was always assistance to hand. I had plenty of discussions around my longer term career prospects as well, potentially outside of the company I was working for which was very appreciated.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was incredibly busy , however I wouldn't say this was a bad thing as I was given the opportunity to take on work that appealed to me. I was utilising a lot of the project management skillset and know that this will come in useful again. Once again I was a core part of the team rather than 'just' an intern. I was also able to say when I was at capacity.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As previously mentioned I was allowed to take on the work I felt I could achieve, my team was also there to support me.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Already mentioned, project management will help me for life. time management and navigating through the variety of political situations you may encounter in the workplace were also included, all in all it has given be a strong set of skills upon which to build my career.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Obviously it was work orientated , but I never felt too pressured at any point. I could get up take breaks/ see other interns if I wanted . I felt like they trust the employees enough to get the work done that there is no need for a draconian strict office atmosphere. Working in my project room with my team although there was intense moments it was always interspersed with humour and chances to relax.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The first 4 weeks were very organised with numerous events every week. There was also a pair of induction days at the beginning. Having said that I was extended for another 6 weeks, during this 6 weeks there was nothing formally organised. However as the only intern to be extended I can understand why. Definitely well organised for the first 4 weeks.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was given the opportunity to sit in many meetings and take notes from a purely educational perspective. Although I did have deliverables my education was always prioritised and so ultimately the firm was more interested in investing in my time here than getting a ROI.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have been given a contractual job offer.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Again first 4 weeks were very good but then the interns left and so I was on my own. I was however put in touch with a new group of interns starting so wasn't isolated.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • This is canary wharf. Of course it's expensive

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not so good in actual canary wharf but if you are looking for clubs then its very easy to go into london

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not formally, although I did meet up with interns

    1/5
