    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my internship a great deal bar one or two difficult days where I was slightly ill and the work was not the most exciting. This enjoyment stemmed from the work itself, the environment, my sociable and good natured colleagues and the general good feeling of being in a job.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • For the most part I felt valued especially when I saw my work actually making a difference in saving someone a lot of headache or adding quality to a project or job. Where this was not the case the colleagues tended to be too busy and it was not a case of lack of respect.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • For the most part managers were extremely supportive and helpful when questions needed answering, even extending private number for queries and taking you as a friend as well as a colleague.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This differed quite a bit depending on the job, manager and day. For the most part I was busy for the whole day, with some days like Friday being busy in the morning and quiet in the afternoon and on one or two days being quiet for most of the day, although on those days training and other small to-dos were done.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Fifty per cent of my work were important tasks which made me feel responsible and worried for any possible mistakes, whereas the other 50 percent was usually of a more basic nature and its effect would have been small.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Due to finishing my internship very recently it is difficult to say but the skills I received have already carried over into my life, with many new found skills to surely be very useful in future jobs and studies

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • In my first week the atmosphere was quite dim and formal but in the rest of my intership it was relaxed in the sense that people worked hard but in a relaxed enviornment

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was reasonably well organised with each intern assigned to a graduate and manager to keep up with queries and work, however on some occasions more attention could have been made in ensuring interns were always busy with work.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The managers in particular took time out of their very busy schedule to really explain tasks and develop my skills and knowledge and even give up personal time to assist me, which is something I am very grateful for.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing, and if I was to be offered a job it would be to the extent where I would not bother applying for other jobs in my third year at all and would put all my focus on achieving the 2.1

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Reasonably so, we regularly had lunch together and talked about the placement during work and outside work, but due to the busy nature and being in different departments socialising with other interns happened only once or twice

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home so both were very low

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife is not an interest of mine

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes there was and I took advantage of this

    3/5
