The Role
My second week in Corporate was much better than my first in Comm Lit.
Again, Comm Lit was not great - my Partner wasn't very welcoming and there wasn't too much to do. On the other hand, my Buddy, [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] was so lovely - he could not have been nicer or more welcoming or helpful. Corporate was much better with people appreciative of the help I gave them.
I was given nothing by my supervisor in Comm Lit. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], when he was in the office, was lovely and although had no work for me, gave me reading etc to do and made sure I was busy.
Second week - much better. First week I did very little.
First week, none. Second week more - I think as much as was possibel with the work I was doing.
The skills won't help my degree at all. They will be of use for future vac schemes and interviews. However, I'm doubtful I've learnt anything that will aid me massively in my future career.
The Company
First week very unfriendly bar the few people I spoke to (3). Again [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] is worth mentioning as he was really friendly as was [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] who I did some work for. Second week much nicer - my buddy [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] introduced me to loads of people which immediately made you feel more at home.
Excellent. There was no hassle at any stage. Rooms were booked, room changes notified with plenty of time. Never an issue. I think more could have been done to ensure people we were busier - I would have preferred to have been doing really boring, trivial tasks like sticking stamps on envelopes or photocopying than to have been sat with nothing to do.
It was only a two week placement so no active training. The morning seminars were useful and interesting. I found the more interactive ones (e.g. with quizes and case studies) far more interesting.
Company Parties/Events
The Culture
Not nearly as good as I imagined. We had two social events in the fortnight, which were good. I think a lot of us were too tired to bother socialising at the end.
I commuted and spent over £100 a week on this. London's always expensive in terms of socialising when in business areas.
Lots of pubs and restaurants but didn't experience many.
