The Role
I've really enjoyed my internship at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. It’s a fantastic programme that allows you to gain a great deal of knowledge about the bank and provides you with opportunities to meet people across different business lines.
I felt very welcomed into the bank by everyone that I met, my team gave me a variety of different projects that allowed me to develop a great understanding of the division and allowed me to work with many different people.
My managers and my team were very supportive and encouraging. They were very approachable and always willing to help me if I had any problems and available if I needed to clarify any element of my work with them.
One of the best aspects of the internship is the fact that you are able to manage your own time. I was able to meet people across the division and also had time to work on my projects.
Even as interns we were involved in many important projects that really helped the team to meet their goals and objectives. It was great to have such responsibly at a junior level and we felt that we were making a contribution to the team throughout.
I think the internship helped us with both personal and professional growth. We had a training week at the start of the internship where we recieved lessons in software such as excel and powerpoint. We also had sessions that helped to develop soft skills such as the ability to present that will benefit us throughout the rest of our degree and beyond.
The Company
Everyone in the office was working hard but there was still always a friendly atmosphere. As interns we felt comfortable walking around the office and speaking to people. In addition, all managers kept their doors open so we were able to interact with senior staff on a daily basis.
The internship was very well organised, there was a clear structure to the programme and everything ran smoothly. Throughout the internship there were many events that were planned for us, from speaker series to intern drinks on Fridays.
I think the firm invested a lot in all of the interns. People throughout the bank gave up a great deal of their time to speak to our intern class to give them an insight into their specific roles and also into working life within the bank.

Future employment prospects within the bank are very good. Each intern is assessed fairly for a graduate role after university if they would like to be considered.
The Culture
There was a good social scene amongst the intern class. People were all very friendly and wanting to get to know each other so interns met up most weekends. In addition to this, the bank organised many events where the interns could also get to know each other.
The cost of living was in line with normal london prices.
There were many places around work that interns could go to after work .
There were sports clubs that interns could get involved in which were a good opportunity to get to know each other.
