The Role
It is difficult going from a position of expertise to a position of absolutely no knowledge, which obviously impacts on your enjoyment. This aside, it was enjoyable.
Colleagues were professional but friendly and welcoming. Having said that, you are being assessed, so there is a degree to which you are being tested, and so this impacts on the dynamic of the relationship.
There were peaks and troughs, but overall, if you were proactive, you were busy from 7am-7pm easily.
My placement was unrelated to my degree. In terms of real-life work experience, it was an excellent means by which to gain this, given the scope of talks we were given and the seniority of the colleagues we were able to interact with.
The Company
The trading floor is obviously fairly full on, noisy, and busy at all times.
HR were excellent in promptly promulgating important information. The events were all very well organised, and well timed so as to break up the internship, as well as providing an appropriate information content-wise, at the point when the event was scheduled.
People were always willing to have you sit with them and talk you through what they were doing, as well as setting you tasks, engaging with you on a personal level, and generally being extremely engaged teachers. I thought this was excellent.
Unknown at this point. We will not be informed as to the result until the final day.
The Culture
It varied based on the groups and the time in the internship.
Very expensive -- but it's London!
