The Role
I had a fantastic time on my internship, even when the work wasn't all that exciting I still enjoyed it as the people who worked there and the general atmosphere at KPMG is fun and friendly.
I felt very valued by my colleagues, I was delegated work constantly and as I learnt more, I was given more responsibility. I felt like simply one of the graduates, rather than just an intern.
My manager was not actually there until the final two weeks of my internship which was somewhat frustrating, but once I met her she was incredibly supportive and encouraged me to seek experience in other departments and also gave me loads of help in preparing for my final interview. I can't really complain!
I was quite busy most days, although there wasn't all that much work on a few days due to the nature of the project. Most of the tasks were quite basic and didn't require much thinking, but as long as I was busy I enjoyed it.
As time went on I was given more and more responsibility. I was given the same amount of responsibility as the graduates by the end of my internship which was really satisfying and nice to know that I'd earned my colleagues' trust.
I now have invaluable experience of the company and the job, and got a really great understanding of how financial advisory works. It was very eye-opening.
The Company
Always very friendly and everyone was willing to help or explain anything that I didn't understand. I never felt unable to ask for help which was really reassuring. Everyone was really supportive for my final interview, and made sure I also experienced the social side of KPMG!
It wasn't very well organised, as I didn't have any idea where I'd be working, or who I'd be working with, until my second day. It would have been nice to meet my 'buddy' or be put in contact with him/her prior to the start of my internship.
We were given IT training and completed Ethics training which was helpful, but aside from that we weren't really invested in. There were no evaluations of my performance and no appraisals, which would have been helpful.

Company Parties/Events
KPMG are a great company to work for, and I was happy to have received a job offer from them. However, there is a rigid hierarchy which all employees must work up, which is not appealing to me.
The Culture
The other interns were very sociable and tried to meet up a lot which was good. However, it was often difficult for me to meet up with them because I was in client site in a different part of London.
I worked in London, so the cost of living is quite high. However, whenever we went out with colleagues the manager normally paid so this wasn't a problem!
The nightlife is fabulous in London, however I did not go out at any point with my colleagues or other interns.
There weren't a great deal of opportunities to get involved in other activities, but as my internship was only for four weeks this may have been difficult.
