About You
I really enjoyed the insight, it gave me a lot of experience in an area I previously knew very little about, and so gave me invaluable insight into whether I thought I would enjoy having that job as a career after graduation.
The people were all very friendly and welcoming, the only thing stopping me ranking it higher is that audit involves a lot of technical knowledge, which I didn't have coming from a maths degree, so I felt that I needed a lot of guidance to complete my work.
I didn't have any prior experience of accounting or audit, so really didn't know how to do anything, but everyone was incredibly supportive, and made me feel comfortable and able to ask any questions I had. I particularly liked that if my manager for that task was busy then anyone else around was more than willing to help too.
I feel I have a much better grasp of basic accounting knowledge, which will help me in my final year of my maths degree as I have a finance module, and if I am successful in getting a job at Deloitte it will put me in a really good position when I join, as I will have already learned some skills, particularly on their IT systems.
The Company
The insight was very well structured. There was a centralised introduction event for all the regional offices and a training day, then when I started on work I was given a wide variety of things to do, giving me insight into different areas.
The atmosphere was really friendly, and everyone was really welcoming. I worked with several different teams and they were all kind and approachable, and always made sure I was happy with what I was doing.
My training was very thorough, and I was encouraged to ask as many questions as I could, and they were all answered and explained well. We were also given a presentation on interview techniques at the induction event.
I had lots of hands on experience doing jobs that would normally be done by first year graduates, and did this continuously for the three weeks, so I feel that I would know what to expect if I was given a full time role.
By working with lots of different people I was able to ask them all about what they do, and what they like and dislike about the culture of the company, and everyone had very positive responses. It was also clear from the atmosphere in the office.
Before I started the internship I wasn't really sure of what the job really involved, and wasn't sure if I would enjoy it, but the hands on experience I was given was invaluable, and I found that I really enjoyed doing the job, and that I would like to do it as a career.
Everything Else
I was paid a good salary and my expenses were reimbursed in the same way as all the other employees.
I spent some time working in a large, open plan office, and the rest of my time working with different teams of people, so I met lots of other employees. On one job I also worked with employees from another Deloitte office, and at the induction event I was able to network with the interns from other regional offices.
There were several social events during the three weeks, most of which were arranged for the inters, and we were also invited to their annual summer ball.
Several people I worked with were on the football team, and they arrange events such as sports days as well.
Overall my internship was a hugely positive experience. I feel like I learned a lot, was given huge amounts of insight into the job, and felt really welcomed and valued by everyone I worked with.
