The Role
The internship was very organised and I knew what jobs I would be on/with who etc. I was put on a different job every week, which gave me an insight into the different clients at KPMG, along with getting to work with a lot of different people. I do not drive and lifts to client sites were organised for me, which was really appreciated!
Everyone was very welcoming and friendly and helped me a lot, answering any questions I had about the work I had been given.
A manager at the office was looking after all the interns. She made sure we knew what we were doing and organised a timetable for everyone.
I would say that I was fairly busy most days. I was given a lot of the basic ticking and matching work, along with checking and writing financial statements. A few times I had to wait around for colleagues to prepare work for me to do, but it was never for that long.
Being untrained and an intern, I was unable to take that much responsibility for the audit! However, I was responsible for making sure all the work I did was correct, and also had to represent the firm in when talking to the client, which felt like a big responsibility.
I learnt a lot on excel (pretty much the only programme you use!) and obviously also learnt a lot of basic accountancy on the job, which might help me next year in my financial theory module.
The Company
The general atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming, although I didnt spend a lot of time in the office and was mainly on client sites.
My timetable was organised on the first day and never changed, but I know some other interns had jobs cancelled etc but this is kind of inevitable in audit.
Their was limited time (only 4 weeks) so obviously we could not have substantial training, but I learnt a lot on the job, asking the other members of the audit team questions.

I had an interview a few days ago for a grad job and am awaiting to hear back from KPMG as to whether I have got one (so fingers crossed!).
The Culture
On away jobs, you go out for dinner with the others in the audit team every night and I went to the pub afterwards a few times and when we finished the placement, we all went out for drinks to celebrate.
Nottingham is fairly cheap to go out in, however I don't know about accommodation prices since I lived with family.
Obviously, being a big city, nightlife is pretty good.
There is a football and netball team and a fair amount of socials, so I would say yes.
