    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I am pleased that I have been given responsibility to work on projects which will make a huge difference to the future of Deloitte. Addtionally, the social side of the internship has been great. I have enjoyed the events that the Entry Level Programme team have put on for all of the interns, including the Graduate Sports Day and Graduate Ball. Overall, it was great.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was treated not as an intern, but as a full time employee. I was given work on an equal level to a new graduate, and the expectations of me were the same. Once I built up trust I was often asked to do ad hoc work by various team members besides my line managers.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • On both of my projects I was sit right opposite my line managers. Whenever I wanted feedback or help with a task they were more than happy to help me, and I would say that their feedback was what taught me the most about myself and allowed me to improve the most during the internship.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Every day I always had something to do and as an intern, I did not expect to be in a position whereby I would have to prioritise my workload. If I didn't have anything to do, my manager put me in contact with somebody who did.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During my placement I had a lot of responsibility particularly in terms of a project I carried out which would determine the security of secure locations within the bank. The client on boarding process was particularly interesting but also very important as any minor errors could lead to clients not being on boarded on time, costing money.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • At University I work individually, and my work only reflects my own efforts. It was a huge change to come into the office and work within a team, on behalf of a company. Furthermore, at University I plan my own work, building up to a fixed deadline (exam date). Therefore I had to adapt to the retail industry, which is fast-paced and constantly changing. Overall, the way I have been working is completely different to the way I work at University. This has been great because I have learnt a whole new way of working, which I know will be valuable beyond my degree studies.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was a great place to work. I have been able to have fun with my team, but also put my head down and work when I need to. The fact that you can walk up to anyone in the office and ask them a question, without emailing them and formally scheduling time in their diary, is great.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was generally well organised. My first couple of weeks in the office were less so, because my project brief had changed twice and it had not been fully explained to me. However,I understand that my project brief had to change because it was no longer in the company's best interest. At this point I learn how fast-paced and changing retail is, and that is was the nature of the project that caused it to seem disorganised, rather than a lack of organisation/preparation for my arrival in the office.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have had scheduled meeting with my assigned Personnel manager. This has been a good way to talk about my personal development during the course of the internship.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The internship is a direct route to the graduate scheme - something that was vital for me. You have 6 months working on a project and you must deliver/present it to a Director and a couple of managers. After your 6 months is up, you'll have an interview where they assess whether you are a right fit for the company or not.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • It was very easy to make friends with the fellow placement students as there were a number of social events and the majority of students lived in the same accommodation.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The company subsidised our rent so that was fine. There were many places to eat around the area I lived, which was fairly close to the shopping areas. But its expensive.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are many bars and restaurants around. London has an amazing night life.Amazing! Ridiculous amount of options and places to go to.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, there are many sport and other related activities outside of work. There was the CSR day where we went to a park for some volunteer work, which was a nice day off.
