    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It has given me a real insight on a professional working environemnt and has allowed me to work with several different teams and departments. This experience will be invaluable to me in the future.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everybody in the team is very welcoming, friendly and always willing to help. They have made the placement so much more enjoyable.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • It is important to use initiative and be independent in this role however if I have ever needed any help team members are always there to explain and help work through things.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On a daily basis I have several different tasks to do which always kept me busy. Sometimes work may be quiet however there are plenty of other things to do, so this is when I would ask team members if they would like any help or support.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • This role offers a good level of responsibilty, especially once you have grasped the basics, you can build on what you have learnt and take on more work and more of the decisions. My team have encouraged me to build mini business cases, come to my own conclusions to and give my opinions.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This job does not relate closely to my degree however skills such as time management, organization and prioritizing will be invaluable throughout my studies and in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There is usually a really good atmosphere in the office. Everybody works hard but is really chatty and friendly so there is a good balance.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement has been in place for years so it runs quite smoothly. The handover with the previous student is really helpful as they teach you everything you need to know, without the pressure of training with your manager.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The 2 week handover as mentioned above is a very good way to train students. Xerox has its own learning Portal, accessible to all employees who would like to learn new courses. Some of these are mandatory and others are intended for personal growth. I have developed my skills in all Microsoft Applications from this Learning Portal which will helped during my placement and will also come in handy in the future.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The company employees a lot of previous students so this placement is a great platform for a future job. A lot of the full time employees were previously students, who enjoyed the job so much they still work with Xerox years later.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is a big group of students at Xerox so the social life is good, whether you just want to sit with other students at lunch, go out after work and at weekends. It was great when finding a place to live as all the students are in house shares together.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Costs of living in Uxbridge are cheap - rent is approximately £400 a month for a nice place, a lot cheaper than central London! Going out in Uxbridge is fairly cheap too, so you don't need to worry about spending all of your wages.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Uxbridge itself isn't amazing- there are pubs and two cluns however the tube runs to London, where the nightlife is amazing (it is more expensive though).

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are football and rugby teams to join, as well as a charity committee which has recently raised a lot of money!

    4/5
