The Role
Overall an incredibly beneficial placement. There were some weeks when I was bored or had too much work but it all contributed to fantastic experience of the working world and I now feel far more confident about my employability.
Praise and recognition often given when due by immediate team and even senior management.
Fantastic support from line manager - weeky one-to-ones to monitor workload and monthly one-to-ones to discuss placement/development goals meant I had all the support I needed.
This varied massively from day to day and month to month. Always lots to get involved with but sometimes you do have to be pro-active and seek out the opportunities yourself (not a bad thing).
Started the placement assisting managers, as confidence grew I began managing my own projects end-to-end. More and more responsibility was given throughout the year.
The placement has inspired my choice of dissertation topic and set me up with several contacts to help with research. I've developed my exisiting written/verbal/interpersonal communication skills and learnt new skills such as how to influence others, how to cope with organisational change and how to use software such as Brainshark, Live Meeting, Sharepoint and Docushare.
The Company
Very fun team, will miss them a lot.
Experienced placement provider so the team knew exactly how to supoprt, encourage and develop us as students. A few minor issues with paperwork but nothing terrible.
My manager identified areas for improvement and encouraged me to work on these by setting me targets. I was also encrouaged to work with other teams or attend events/training that I felt would be beneficial to my development, even if they weren't related to my role.

The Culture
Couldn't ask for a better bunch of people to share the year with. So many nights out, parties, bbqs in the park - a real student atmosphere.
Rent was expensive (approx £400/month) and London can be expensive, e.g. taxis back from a night out, but Uxbridge itself is reasonable and the tube is a cheap way to get into London.
Local clubs were average but always a good night when lots of us out. London has everything from student nights to the clubs you see on Made in Chelsea and everything in between. Spoilt for choice if you don't mind the 45min taxi to get there/night buses back.
Some opportuinities with the student-led charity team and staff sports teams. Varies depending on role.
