    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my internship within Lloyds Banking Group because I got to experience what was involved in a finance based role within a leading bank. This was particularly important to me as I have an engineering background so I had limited prior experience of any of the work I got involved with.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I had a great team, whom I got on with well. In addition, I constructed relationships with a variety of other people across the buisness through the work I was involved in, as well as having wonderful insight days in other departments, a branch and a chat with current graduates.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was very supportive throughout my placement, with weekly 1:1s to ensure I was enjoying myself and the work I was invovled with. In addition, other members of my team provided me with support throughout my internship and provided me with valuable feedback.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I enjoy being really busy, and I had some days where I was as busy as I would have liked, but I also had quite a lot of days where I was very quiet. Although this is to be expected in every job so I wasn't too concerned.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility through the work I was asked to do. This involved owning and updating 2 models which delivered a considerable amount of value to a project I was involved in for the majority of the internship.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have already graduated from University prior to starting my internship but the skills I have developing are invaluable to my career progression and decision for graduate scheme applications for next years entry. Although I have my fingers crossed for a Lloyds Banking Group graduate scheme referral because I enjoyed my internship greatly.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Friendly but hard working. Everyone sits in teams so theres a lot of communication between colleagues which is great. We had a few team drinks and lunches which created a nice office atmosphere.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well organised by HR with predetermined start and end dates, induction days and regular update emails.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company scheduled webinars to educate us in the basics of banking, whilst actively encouraging insight days to other departments and a back to branch day to experience what happens on the shop floor.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing, I have applied for the graduate scheme referral in the hope of returning to Lloyds Banking group in 2016. For the finance graduate scheme, they offer sponsorship to complete your academic qualifications, CIMA or ACCA, which is something that is very important to me and consequently makes the grad scheme even more attractive.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, you are put into charity teams of 10 interns and are asked to raise money for BBC Children in Need. Therefore you make friends with the other interns very quickly. In addition, work drinks and lunches are scheduled to increase the social scene amongst colleagues.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived and worked in London, Lloyds Banking Group pay for your rent if you are unable to live near the offices for free (e.g. family and friends) which is a massive bonus! Although London is expensive, London interns are given the London Living Allowances on top of their pay checks which hugely helps to lower the cost of socialising.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I worked and lived in the center of London.... of course the nightlife was amazing!!!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Well in your intern teams you arrange fundraising activities which enable you to get involved with activities outside work. In addition, there are loads of opportunities to get involved with other activities outside of work in London, so its up to you if you want to join!
