    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a hugely insightful experience; I learnt so much about the company, the industry, office life, people, the division I was in (Group Audit), and other areas too. The opportunities to do anything you want to are there because the organisation is so huge. It was a very enjoyable.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From day one I realised LBG's value of their people and this is channelled down through to every single team and reflected in the way they operate and coordinate with one another. This was very evident to me and meant I was welcomed into the office and the colleagues working around me to feel like I was a completely valued member of the team throughout.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • To a great extent - my manager was always quite busy so a member of the team took charge of looking after me, giving me tasks and different bits of work, ensuring I was getting the most out of the experience and supporting and guiding me when it came to ensuring I make a good enough impression to prove an ideal candidate to be considered for the Graduate Scheme.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most days I had enough to do to be busy throughout the day - I was left free to fill my schedule with the work that I wanted to do so it was very relaxed. We had a number of different projects and challenges to focus on as well as our day-to-day work so I'd say I was reasonably busy but not overwhelmed with workload.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given as much responsibility as I was comfortable with having at this stage which was nice. The tasks I completed as part of my teams workload were of moderate responsibility, such as typing up official minutes of formal meetings and updating official documents. Other team projects gave me further responsibility which was great.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • So much so; it's a great opportunity to get a huge insight into professional life and how to conduct yourself, learn networking skills, professional relationship building skills, organisational and communicational skills, etc which are all transferable and useful to start building this early on.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office is very relaxed, friendly and chatty but still hardworking so I think it's a very ideal atmosphere to have. The actual layout is very spacious as is my desk area. It enabled me to feel very comfortable from my first day and I can only hope future offices I work in are similar.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was well organised in some ways but in other ways not so much. For many of us it was often difficult to contact a HR representative, the external payroll system used has proved quite inefficient at times, and as for actual work requirements and what was expected of us/what work we were supposed to be doing, this was left down to our line managers who often didn't have enough time to put together a structured plan.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Very much so - I am very greatful to have had the opportunity to travel to the London offices a few times for training sessions and there has been a huge focus on our personal development; HR really encourage our line managers to discuss this with us so it is down to them really and how they operate their teams.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Personally I really like LBG as a prospective employer because they're a huge organisation with endless opportunities for personal development, networking, scope, training, etc.; they really value equality and encourage you to challenge when things are potentially wrong or unfair, they genuinley put customers first and care about contributing towards the communities which they impact which is pretty much every single one across the UK and they realy value their employees. What more could you want?

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. I lived in student halls (paid for) with lots of other interns and made some great friends there. This has been one of the best things about the placement; it's like being back in Uni halls except they're paid for, you have a cleaner and you're earning money... Best thing ever.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Not really LBG's fault but yeah quite expensive, kind of what you expect in a captial city.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 4/5
