The Role
I enjoyed elements of my internship, however I found the people I worked with somewhat critical and hostile. They weren't welcoming to someone with a different character and required complete conformity. Some elements were good, with opportunities to stretch myself, but I often found my manager held me back and when I asked to be stretched he wouldn't action anything.
I felt valued by two or three colleagues who were very positive, however I found that my line manager was hesitant to be at all positive despite meeting all of his demands.
I was given guidance by my manager, but this was very much to do it how he does it, with no individual flare or difference. It appeared that I had to do it his way, in his style, and there was no appreciation for what I had to bring as an individual. I felt I got a lot of guidance, but it was delivered in a way which was somewhat negative.
I wasn't very busy and really had to push to be given more work. In the final weeks of my internship, despite having a virtually empty calendar, and pleading for more work, nothing was given to me.
I was kept on a constant leash, and no recognition was given to my obvious ability, given that I have a place at one of the world-leading universities, and have also had previous jobs. I felt as though I was viewed as a 15 year old on work experience, and there wasn't an appreciation for my abilities as an adult.
Some skills I received were great, such as conducting interviews, and creating presentations. I don't however feel that the way I was treated, or the workload I was given is representative of future employment and this therefore did not assist or encourage me going forward.
The Company
The atmosphere was more upbeat than other areas of the business, however this appears to be very misleading, given the hostility of some colleagues.
As I had gaps where I had no work to do, the company did not communicate with my line manager that I had a disability, and my line manager went on annual leave without leaving adequate guidance, I felt it wasn't well-organised. The preliminaries such as travel and accommodation, and also the induction event were well organised.
The company through my experience is very invested in the individuals. They want you to succeed and have a productive and worthwhile experience. I think that my experience was unique and not fully representative of the Group, and I would just be suited to another department who value me and my capabilities more, and who are glad to give me more work.

The employment prospects in the organisation are great for those who have previous experience within, and as a large organisation, has a lot to offer in terms of breadth of work.
The Culture
This is mixed and dependent on who you live with and what department you work in. It is overall fairly social.
This was fully-funded as the location I worked in was not near where I lived and therefore they paid for my accommodation. Socialising in London is expensive.
I didn't get involved in the nightlife as it was a bit pretentious and overpriced (£25 entry to a nightclub and £6 gin and tonics).
There is a charity challenge which is a company run challenge.
