The Role
It has been a very enjoyable year. I was handed quite a lot of responsibility and I was given the chance to experience a lot new stuff.
The working environment was very positive and everyone was very open and friendly.
My managers have always been very helpful and were mentoring me all the way through the placement. My supervisors were also very friendly and never felt out of reach. I was given a lot of training and one to one sessions which improved my technical skills.
I was handed a project which took over the majority of my time. In addition, I was always seeking out smaller tasks which gave me an insight into other areas of the department. Having said that, there were times when I found myself without much to do which gave me the chance to read up on the company and the automotive industry in general.
I was given a project which I picked up when it was no more than an idea. I was responsible to define the requirements and targets, produce the Simulink algorithm and test the final design in a vehicle. Through this process I had to organise meetings with a number of teams, present quarterly reports to the management team and work through a lot of problems as they came up. It was a very enjoyable and fulfilling experience.
The placement was a tremendously helpful experience. Taking a break from my studies and getting involved in real life projects provided me with a new perspective towards work and the targets I set for myself.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very positive and I was friends with a lot of my co-workers.
The placement was quite well organised. I was given a lot of materal at the begining that introduced me to the company. Also, I felt really comfortable contacting HR whenever I had a querry or problem.
I received a lot of one to one training on the tools I was using during my placement. Also, I was sent on training days at Warwick University and attended a number of conferences provided by suppliers.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
I will be looking to get involved with the company for my final year project.
The Culture
The social aspect of the placement was quite good. I got to hang out with fellow placement students and go out in Leamington Spa which has a lot of students from Warwick University.
Leamington Spa is not the cheapest place but the salary is quite good which gives you a lot of freedom to do a lot of stuff.
