The Role
I really enjoyed my placement. It was a hell of a lot better than being sat at home all summer doing nothing and I now have some good experience to put on my CV. I enjoyed being in Edinburgh aswell as I got to experience a new city and the festival at the same time as working.
I definitely felt valued by my collegaues. I didn't get talked down to at all and they gave me a good level of reponsibility. They explained things to me in a good level of detail but didn't act like I was stupid. My manger also made me feel like I would be missed at the end of my placement.
My line manager was one of the best parts of my internship. She met with me weekly to check things were okay and that I was getting what I wanted out of the placement. She organised numerous shadowing sessions for me so I could discover things I did and didn't want to do during my career. She was also very understanding when I had problems, such as allowing a morning off to move apartments
This was one of my only issues with the placement. The workload fluctuated between really quite busy to sat doing nothing. I understand however it is difficult to find work that is the appropriate level for an intern, it either too simple or too complex and needs alot of explaining.
I feel I was given the appropriate level of responsibility during my placement, I had tasks that I had ownership for and delivered and I was also given key parts in the project the team were working towards. My team were very good at supporting me though so I didn't feel out of my depth.
I have definitely developed useful skills during my placement. I learnt general business skills, like drafting professional emails, interviews, organising meeting and networking which will help me in my future career. I also learnt degree specific skills, for example I attended a Behavioural Economics course, which directly relates to a module I am studying next year.
The Company
My department was rather quiet as my team was small and as I completed my placement during summer team members were often away on holiday. However the office as a whole was big and busy. The canteen was full everyday and there was lots of events in the atrium.
I have mixed views regarding the organisation. My line manager seemed to have been briefed well on what I needed and the induction event in London was well organised however I was only told where my placement was two weeks before. I also had to move apartment twice, both times it was a bit of a mess, and was left up to other interns to sort out! The Talent team were also very slow at responding to queries.
Lloyds were very invested in my personal development, as part of the induction we discussed our strengths and how we would use them. I completed balanced scorecards and kept track of my progress throughout the process. However I didnt recieve any formal training and was purely taught by colleagues along the way.

Very good! There is a very good referal scheme which I am mid way through. I will hear back in the next couple of weeks if I have recieved a job offer for next septmeber on the two year. graduate scheme.
The Culture
Yes, lloyds placed all the interns in a student accomodation so it was very easy to make friends, it was sort of like freshers all over again. I have had many nights out and meals out. I've organised a football tornament with the interns and have been to see the military tattoo. I'm really going to miss everyone I've met when the internship is over.
Edinburgh is rather expensive, drinks prices are definitely alot more expensive than I'm used to! However Lloyds provided free accommodation and the internship is paid so I could afford to have a good time and also save a little bit. It also helped that I had no travel costs as I can walk everywhere I need.
At the beginning of my placement the nightlife was pretty quiet, especially as I'm used to Newcastle! However the second half of my placement coincided with the Fringe festival so it suddenly became very busy with lots going on! There was shows every night, some of which were free!
There was a number of activites to get involved in however they were orgainsed by other interns and not Lloyds. I have been to house parties, the military tattoo, football tornaments, meals out, nights out and comedy shows.
