The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship and looked forward to going to work.
I felt very valued by colleagues, I didn't feel like an intern I felt like a normal employee and wasn't treated any differently because I was an intern.
My manager was very supportive. He was always available to answer questions and took the time to explain things to me. He also ensured we had a weekly meetings and time to discuss how things were going. He was also supportive towards my personal development finding projects/opportunities that suited me and what I wanted to acheive.
I always had something to do. Some days were busier than others. Slightly more work wouldn't have hurt.
I was given projects which I had complete ownership for and was able to put my name on and take full responsibility for.
Most of the skills I have learnt are transferable for every day life and some will benefit my degree.
The Company
The office is very relaxed and calm. People are allowed to chat to one another, eat and use mobile phones. The office wasn't fun.
The initial communication about my intership (location, start date, accomodation) was excellent. The organisation once I arrived on the first day could have been improved as it took 5 days for me to have my own PC/laptop and email access.
My manager helped my personal training and development a lot, the company didn't invest anything into my development.
The graduate scheme is very appealing
The Culture
There was no social scene amongst fellow colleagues. There was a good social scene amongst fellow interns but that is because they organised things between them outside of work.
The company paid for my accomodation so there was no cost for living appart from food and travel. Travel was extremely cheap, £80 a month for unlimited bus and rail travel. Socialising was as cheap/expensive as you wanted it to be, Leeds is so big that there are lots of thigns to do.
Great!
