The Role
I enjoyed my placement thoroughly. The team I worked with were warm and accommodating and I fit in from day one. The aspect I enjoyed most was that I added value to the team I worked with so my time was filled up from day one.
I massively felt valued, I was told on a number of occassions that I was adding value and that they were glad that I was there as an additional resource. I felt like I fit in well and was asked not to leave, this increased my sense of value from the internship.
The RD I worked with the most and whom acted as a supivisor acted as a great mentor to me and gave me insight into working life outside of the general tasks I had been given. She supported me when I struggled and helped me work on my confidence, Overall I felt like I had been given great guidence over the course of the 10 weeks for things that will last my entire working career.
Very. I said when I started I wanted to be made useful and I did get involved in a variety of tasks and projects which filled my weeks. On some occasions I was slightly too busy but I had asked for more work, in the future I may not ask for so much but for this placement it was useful as I got a wide view of the work that the whole team does.
I was given the responsibility to contact clients and fill in important forms for urgent deals going through in the next week. I was also given sole responsibility for completing client plans and understanding client strategies to pass onto RD's pre meeting.
I doubt that he training I recieved in my placement me will help me in further study but will be of upmost importance for later in life and when I start my career. I have learnt life skills as well as banking skills that will be useful even outside of work.
The Company
Generally the atmosphere was positive. At times however there was a bit of conflict following heated meetings. This was a little uncomfortable at the time but only happened once or twice and generally didn't involve me
I was the first intern the office had ever had and so my specific internship was slightly unorganised however in general LBG was very good at organisation. We had an induction event for every intern/scholar on the placement on our very first day which was useful.
The office I worked in was quite busy so didn't have a massive amount of time to teach me however everyone was very accommodating in letting me sit in meetings or talk to me about their job and so I feel like I have been invested in time wise and the graduate scheme will put me through a professional qualification.
National Travel
I have had an interview and my line manager is in the process of completing a referral document for me to hopefully be referred onto the graduate scheme at LBG. I would like to start working for them in the future following my experiences.
The Culture
There was only 2 interns in the office and the other intern to me was located in a different city and commuted to work and so we didn't get much of a chance to socialise. I socialised well within my team but there was noone of a similar age.
N/A I worked where I lived so this wasn't a change. The cost to get to work was £2.50 daily and so didn't cost much at all.
N/a as I didn't go out at night with colleagues. However since I live in the city I know it is fantastic for nightlife.
This was a downside, I think in London there were many opportunities however a substantial amount less in the Regions. I competed in a charity challenge with other interns however this too didn't involve much communicating and so was quite a singular event.
