The Role
It was an insight. It was a lot of work that was at times quite long and repetitive but on the whole I enjoyed it all. There were challenges thrown at me that I would never have expected and I think I’ve come out the other end better off.
They treated me really well. If I did something wrong then they'd tell me and help me improve but equally if I did things well they'd also let me know. The best way to describe it is that I was treated like an actual colleague.
At the start I think I was put in the deep end and although i was told the support was there, I think at times I lacked the direction but as I got into it I was given plenty of support enabling me to proceed.
It varied. At the start I was given plenty to do and I felt rushed off my feet. In the middle I had a lot less to do and was quite bored at times but then i took it into my own hands and managed to sort some things out for myself.
In terms of work, i was given actually work to complete and get stuck into. Not a lot of it was revolutionary work that was going to change the face of the bank but on the whole i was trusted with a lot of stuff.
I have learnt a lot about my motivation, about what I am actually able to achieve as a person. I realised that my work ethic before was very sub-standard but after 8 weeks of 9 until 5 I actually think i have become better as a person.
The Company
It’s pretty relaxed. There is always a bit of chatter going on so that it's not a complete work orientated office but it also has a mentality that you need to get things done too. On the hole though it's a good one.
Initially the organisation was brilliant. Everything went very smoothly and I managed to get stuck into work reasonably quickly. But around half way the work seemed to run out, so it needed that consistency,
They sent me on a couple of away days in Sheffield and I was able to organise some shadow days in other parts of the business which I found very insightful and eye opening. Generally it was good.
In the current stream of the business I’m in (which is retail) I didn't find it appealing. I wouldn't want to work long term for this part of the bank however i would want to work for the company if it was the right job
The Culture
Yes. There was a group of 30 of us positioned in Leeds University accommodation with interns stationed both in Leeds, Halifax and the surrounding area. We did plenty of socials and did a lot of activities as a group
We didn't have to pay for the rent so i couldn't comment on that, but the food and drinks out were fairly well priced wherever you went. We always tried to find the cheap nights to go out, but even then Leeds was still very good
The nightlife was really good. Plenty of choice and lots of variety, I think the only issue we had was that we were a half an hour walk from the town so afterwards it was always quite a trek back once you'd had a couple.
Activities set up by Lloyds were non-existent. They didn't take any interest in that (as far as I’m aware anyway) but in our flats we always organised outings and events. There was plenty to do in Leeds so we were constantly busy.
