The Role
I enjoyed the easter insight very much. This is because it allowed me to gain a true insight into the banking industry, especially RBS, which is the main reason I applied for the program. I would say the program was well planned. I was able to learn a lot about the work and life at RBS and at the same time, gain many skills that will be useful in whatever work I embark on.
Throughout the program, I managed to make many friends. Although many of us were from from different backgrounds, we were rather close and worked together well. The people around me were very open to each other and it was quite easy to share my ideas and thoughts with them.
The management, or rather the people whom I got in touch with were very helpful. Being a someone from an engineering background, my many questions about investment banking were addressed by them. Also, they were really kind, approachable and helpful throughout the easter insight program.
It was rather well balance. I was fed with a lot of information and new things to be learnt. Yet, it was not too rushed. I thought it was paced was just nice, maximizing our learning in the short period of time that was available.
The program was mainly introducing us to RBS, allowing us to understand the work and life there. Hence, it was more of a learning experience than one that gives us with a lot of responsibilities.
From this program, I gained a much more in depth understanding about finance and the financial industry which will definitely be useful in my finance module that I will be taking in my third year. Also, the knowledge that I gained through job shadowing has helped me understand so much more about how different parts of the bank work. It was a good experience and it will definitely help me decide on my future work.
The Company
The working culture is the pride of RBS. They are serious and dedicated about their work and at the same time, they seem to have fun and are very friendly to each other. I believe the working environment there is not as stressful as some of the other banks.
I like how the program was planned, starting with introructory lessons, followed by job shadowing. That way, I was able to gain to most out of the job shadowing as I already had the basic knowledge.
Through their investment on us, I felt their sincerity in showing us who they are and what they can offer and also their hopes that we will join them in the future.
It is rather appealing, especially when I know that in this bank, we will be given responsibility quite early if we are good at what we do.
The Culture
Social scene was good. Also, there were quite a few social activities arranged for us during the program, which allowed us to mix around even more.
It was rather high as it is London, but still affordable.
