The Role
At the beginning of my placement, there was a lot of disorganisation and I was not given very much guidance as to where I was supposed to be, who I was supposed to be with and what I was meant to be doing. I also had a lot of IT problems, which prevented me from being able to do a lot of my work and time was wasted trying to sort this out.
At times I felt like a bit of a nuisance, when I had finished a task and there was nothing for me to do, but the work that I completed was very valued by the staff and they were very appreciative.
Whenever I had diffciulty understanding something, my supervisors always took the time to explain it to me and did not make me stupid at all.
I was always very busy, but I never felt that I wa sgiven too much I was always told that I should try my best, but never worry if i didn't complete something.
I was frequently trusted to undertake research and deal with files on my own. My work was always checked by my supervisor, but I was given a lot of responsibility and my placement was extremely hands-on.
A lot of the skills that I gained here will help me whilst I undertake my LPC in two years time. I was doing things that I am yet to study, and so i have been given a head start when compared to my peers who will never have done these things.
The Company
The atmosphere was friendly, but very hardworking.
There was not very much organisation. There was no set schedule or itinerary, I simply turned up each day and was given tasks that my supervisor thought of off of the top of their head. This was frustrating as i felt that I stopped me from having such an enjoyable experience.
I wa sinvovled in all departmental meetings and training sessions.
I would love to work here, despite some difficulties with my placement. It is a very friendly, welcoming office and everyone is willing to help if you ask. Also, the location is ideal.
The Culture
During my week-long placement, there were two social events.
The prices were typical of a city, but were a lot less than staying in London.
We didn't go out during the week as we started at 9 every morning!
We were offered the opportunity to play a football match, but that was it.
