The Role
I have certainly enjoyed working at Lloyds Bank and I would recommend. The main driver of my rating is how highly supportive and caring colleagues have been both in terms of my personal and professional development. I totally recommend. There reason why my rating is not 10 is the aspect of the role whereby I am expected to provide service to customers at the banking hall which involves a great deal of standing up. This is the one aspect I did not particularly enjoy.
Despite the short length of my service to the organisation and my colleagues, I have been treated with lots of respect and interest and, above all, people have believed in me and given me enough responsibility and support whenever needed.
I have been able to receive advice and guidance whenever I have needed it. Initially I was introduced to a number of procedures and, above all, I have been very grateful for having been given the opportunity to meet such a big number of people through my line manager and superiors.
I would not say the role is particularly pressuring or generates high volumes of work. My business generally depends on my tendency to ask for pieces of work and offer my help. The role is particularly ad-hoc- it is more consistent.
Some tasks have required more responsibility than others. I have been given a few main aspects within the business that I have been focusing on that are of great importance to the business, however, I have been rather supporting than directly affecting. It has been a fair amount of responsibility.
Thanks to the diverse nature of my role, I can confidently say that I have grown as a professional in the financial sphere. I have received experience both in a managerial aspect, since I was based in the West London Local Director's office and have first-handedly witnessed and supported management of an immense network of colleagues; and a branch perspective, hence, I have enhanced my customer service skills and financially-related technical knowledge. I am positive that this will have a significant impact on my career. It will certainly also impact on my degree, as it is Business Management, but not to a large extent.
The Company
The office consisted of 5 individuals including myself and we all have been getting on so well, There were no other interns based in the same office but those people are incredible individuals and although I really wanted to have colleague-interns working alongside me, the atmosphere is certainly a 9.
The internship program, in general, has been organised in an extremely professional and forward manner. We have had various events, challenges and projects which is something vital for a young professional. Their nature has also been very diverse which has been keeping everyone busy and pro-active which has certainly contributed to the extent to which I have enjoyed myself. The Retail Banking division, however, needs to improve on giving interns slightly more responsibility, in my opinion.
A pretty big investment of time considering the short length of the program.
Company Parties/Events
I am more than interested in working within Lloyds Banking Group and the main reason for my choice is the type of colleagues I have encountered not only in Retail Banking but in other departments. I have set myself a new position-goal now that is within the Group.
The Culture
Yes, thanks to the various projects, charity- and other challenges we were involved in. This required physically meeting people and being in constant contact via emails, texts and etc. It is indeed a very good environment to meet interesting people and even good friends. The reason why my rating is not a 10 is that in Retail Banking placements, interns tend to be placed on their own within offices.
London is London after all. I live in London which meant that I was not eligible for accommodation, I can certainly confirm that the Group can support anyone who needs a bit of support, for example, with respect to accommodation. Cost of living is, naturally, very high.
I was based in West London and lived in Mayfair- expensive but amazing. Notting Hill carnival is a must.
Yes but, perhaps, because London has been my home for a while so I have resumed my normal living standard after 5 p.m. Retail has not required me to stay post 5 p.m. so I would certainly say that there interns still have time for themselves.
