The Role
The bank has appealing values which they apply to work that they carry out on a daily basis. In addition, Lloyd's provides accommodation for the interns. Living with the other interns added great value to the internship. It gave us an opportunity to discuss various aspects of the internship as well as providing a chance to network. However, the logistics of the internship lacked organisation. The accommodation I was placed in was a 2 hour commute to the office that I was based at. Furthermore, the bank encourages you to reach out at sectors that interest you and to organise shadowing. This adds a great deal of variety to your internship.
The environment at Lloyd's Banking Group is nurturing and colleagues are always willing to spend time to explain complicated processes. You are encouraged to talk senior members and share your ideas and experience with them. In my office, I found that all colleagues were warm, friendly and supported me throughout my placement.
Management were always willing to provide support and advice. I felt as though they were approachable as they as welcomed discussions. Throughout the bank colleagues always made time if you to call them and offer their guidance. This was great as widened the support network.
In the beginning, I was short of work. However, after raising my concerns with my line-manager I was quickly moved to another team. Moving teams was great as new the team leader ensured that I was never short of tasks. In addition, how busy you were depended on whether you were pro-active, as there were always projects for you to get involved with. I imagine that this is a similar case in many internships.
I felt as though the work I did and the ideas I had were valued by the team. Senior management took time review my projects and give me feedback.
Developing relationships is emphasised throughout the bank. Throughout the placement I engaged with senior colleagues. This has helped me to build on my communication skills. In addition, there are many opportunities to lead a piece of work. At the end of the project it is likely that you would have to do a presentation. Therefore, due to the number of presentations I delivered my confidence has greatly improved.
The Company
The office was friendly and relaxed. People often chatted to each other whilst working. They also organised team events such as buffets. In addition, every morning in the team meeting we would have a quiz. This was a nice way to start the day and catch up with colleagues.
The internship was well organised in the sense that everyone was aware of the interns. From the beginning we were involved in various activities and projects throughout the business.
Interns were given the opportunity to get involved with various projects. This enabled us to build on a range of skills. However, the opportunities you were given varied greatly depending on the team you were placed in.
Travel loan
Lloyds Banking Group is welcoming and supporting. I feel as though this is a positive place to work. There are many opportunities for progression and personal development.
The Culture
All the interns lived in the same accommodation in central London. However, my accommodation was in London but my placement was a 2 hour commute. This meant that I had to make more of an effort to meet the other interns.
As my office was two hours away from my accommodation I rarely socialised in the area that I worked in.
As my office was two hours away from my accommodation I did not experince the nightlife in the area that I worked in.
I was not informed of anything to get involved with, In addition I lived a two hour commute. Hence, it would have been difficult to stay after work to get involved with oustide activities.
