The Role
Work placement was very fitting for my interests, department was varied in responsibillity but the roles allocated throughout the team were clear. Only improvement could have been a more structured work schedule.
Team was very welcoming, despite an age gap I felt like I fit in perfectly.
Managers were very clear with instructions for any roles - but also very patient when things needed explaining again.
The workload was very challenging as I was given responsibillities in various parts of the team, but the volume fluctuated depending on the time of the month.
Since my placement was in Finance, obviously there is a high risk to all work. I was given an important part of a forecast to run - but otherwise work I did was carefully controlled to reduce risk. I did not feel like being in a careful department warranted a poor grade, the responsibillity I was given was very appropriate for the role.
I developed key planning and management skills that I had never had the opportunity to work on due to my degree. These skills do not exactly benefit my degree, but will certainly help me with any work in the future.
The Company
Atmosphere was relaxed but channeled
Some software access was requested after my arrival - induction pack was well thought out and informative.
Training in software was very brief - but software was specialist and team were often very busy. However, a trip to London was organised to expand my knowledge of the bank which was incredibly useful.
Future employment seems very promising - most staff appear pleased in their role and this makes me feel very positively about a career with them.
The Culture
Placement students social scene was very diverse and enjoyable. Colleague pub rally was well recieved and attended by many members of staff.
Accomodation was paid for, local food wasn't too pricey and socialising costs were as expected in a big city.
Very diverse night life with many different options.
Colleagues often mailed around with information on sporting and social activities. Otherwise, accomodation was very central and it was very convenient to get involved with social clubs etc.
