The Role
I really enjoyed the whole of my placement. I started out with a very negative opinion on banking but thanks to working with such an amazing team my opinion very quickly changed.
Considering I have known the people I worked with for less than 3 months, I feel that I wilk 100% keep in contact with my mentor and my line manager. They have made me feel very valued and even got me mentioned in the montlhy shout outs on our team call.
I had regular one to ones and was set SMART targets. They realised that banking/maths wasnt my chosen career and accomodated for that. One of my colleagues took an hour out of his day to go through Excel with me and my line manager spent time with me developing my presentation skills.
I always had enough to do to fill my day, I very rarely had to ask for work to do but I always left the office at 5pm, when I was supposed to.
I feel that I was given the right amount of responsobility and left to work independentley when neccessary. I think if I had been given anymore, I would have felt extremely out of depth.
I have learnt time management and how to prioritise. I have also learnt that it is not just about what you achieve at the end of your project it is how you achieved it.
The Company
Great. Everyone got on really well, we went out for lunch every couple of weeks and there was often joking aroud the office and people generally just looked like they actually like each other.
They invested a lot of time in me, made sure I felt confident and comfortable, that I was meeting all the targets I had set myself and doing things that would help me in my degree.
Working from home
Depending on what area of the bank would depend on how appealing it would be. If it was in the area that works mailny with charities and fundraising then I would seriously consider doing the grad scheme.
The Culture
I don't think a lot of effort went into making sure that the scholars and interns mixed. Sometimes it felt as though because the scholars were all living in seperate houses with no kitchen to socialise in that you were very much on your own.
Depending on what you were into it didn't seem as though there was very much. I was lucky in that my line manager showed me places to do yoga.
