    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I absolutely loved my placement in LBG Group Corporate affairs. I was given the opportunity to fully submerse myself into the team and develop all key skills. LBG really do care about your career path and development and they ensure that this is put first in all aspects of my intersnship. My day to day work was full and I felt of use and not at all a tea or coffee maker.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I will really miss my colleagues when I leave. They have all devoted so much time to aiding me on my objectives, giving me guidance on my career path and balanced scorecard, and most importantly they took the time to get to know me for who I am as a colleague and I have not once felt like an outsider or intern. A professional yet open team of colleagues. This aspect of my internship has been perfect.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was mostly very helpful, she aided me where I needed it, answered my silly questions and gave me patience when I needed it most. Probably the most important thing was that she was and still is not quick to judge and therefore makes allowances for the fact that you cannot get to know someone in full, especially not in a ten week period. My objectives were often clear, but I was sometimes given work in swings and roundabouts rather than a steady basis.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Sometimes I felt like I had the perfect balance, somedays I had to stay late at work to meet objectives and somedays I felt like I had to chase people's tails to get work. However, the options were there, I was not expected to stay late, but that was my choice and the lack of work on occaisional days allowed me to use my initiative and intergrate into other areas.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I would not say that I was running the show, as I don't feel that is really the place of anyone in an organisation, even the CEO is part of a team on which he relies. Nevertheless I was a highly valued member of the team and I have been given (positively) stretching tasks such as designing my own packs and pages for the programme I am working on.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have developed in the workplace are skills which cannot be replaced. I have developed myself as a team worker, a fundraiser, a team leader. I have developed my admin skills in all areas. Most of all my internship has developed me holistically giving me the personhood to go forth into further education and jobs with the skills and persona to make a difference.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Again, I wouldn't say the fun never stopped to make it seem like we just had a 24/7 office party, but the atmosphere and ethos of my office were fantastic. The work I was doing was highly enjoyable to me, and the attitudes in my office were always top notch, so I have to say that there was never an unsatisfatory moment in terms of atmosphere.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement is generally very well organised with communications of objectives, living areas, expectations, roles etc. There has been, as there are in every operations minor notches, but nothing I would write home about.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have had several mentors, my team have all invested time in me. LBG support me in getting the best grades possible, I'm given any training or experiences that I desire and can shadow anyone I like.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have not yet got a job with LBG, but I am in the application process for the grad scheme which I REALLY would love to get onto and continue making a difference to the Group Corporate Affairs of the banking group.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I have made friends for life and I will never forget the experiences I have had. I am only sad to have to leave them and go back to university!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It's Edinburgh during Fringe - It's not cheap, but I wouldn't change it for the world and I get my accomodation paid for, so what is there to complain about?

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Again, it's Edinburgh during Fringe, it's the best nightlife in the world right now.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Edinburgh - Fringe. There's literally something on every hour of every day

    5/5
